Favorite opening band PJ turned you onto ?

I know they took a lot of shit for Corin's high pitched screeches during the encore's. Hell, I even bitched about it, but Sleater-Kinney was really a very, very good band. Too bad they are no longer together. They made some ass kicking, sincere, records. Some of the newer PJ fans will not get to see them open.
Check out some of these live performances...

I guess for me it would have to be Ben Harper...Saw him open for PJ at both Randalls Island shows back in 1996

Kings of Leon. I didn't know what they sang before I saw them support the boys in 2006. I went and saw them play at the same venue about a month ago.

not strictly opening but they were the first band on the Southside stage in 07 the day PJ played and since I was there purely for PJ:
    State Radio.
I just fell in love there and then..they're now my 2nd favorite band...and praying very hard they someday open for PJ!

of the actual openers: Kings of Leon and to a lesser extend the Black Keys.
I never saw Ben Harper open for PJ and anyway saw him over 10 years before I ever saw PJ.

I never saw Sleater-Kinney open for PJ, but I did check them out because they were opening for them. I'm glad I did! They became one of my favorite bands of all time. I did eventually get the chance to see them a couple times. Also, Idlewild was killer. Saw them open 3 times in '03 and then saw them headline their own show in Minneapolis. They are still in my top ten of bands to see.

Another vote for Ben Harper at the 2nd Randall's Island show. The second I heard that slide guitar I was hooked.

Liam Finn - if he counts. :)

Otherwise, KoL, Ben Harper, MMJ... Pearl Jam has good taste in opening bands. I can't wait for some US shows to be announced so we can see who the opener is this go round.

    Best: Wolfmother
Worst: Opening band in Vienna 2006... don't even remember the name! Or actually, having Linking Park before them in Lisbon was pretty bad :-s
