Overlooked by most because a) it wasn't in America  and b) it wasn't a "proper" tour date. Those of us who were actually there know how special it was, and that's what counts. The missus and I still see it as the greatest night of our lives. I'd love to know what the band thought of that gig... first show in Europe for 6 years, first time they had played most of the new songs, uber-god Robert Plant (amongst others) in the crowd, and a proper European small-club-gig crowd of just 1600, the likes of which they hadn't seen for a long, long time (1993 Europe club tour?). The whole thing was out of this world.

This iconic pic taken by Jeff (where are you Jeff??) says it all..... This gig was the most amazing of all. Yep... Mr Plant and Plant junior were to our side. We got the VIP tix (the free ones one could win)....

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c273/ ... rlJam9.jpg (sorry, too large to insert here) If you listen to the boot, this is where he says something like 'this is good/nice' can't remember exactly but it gave me goosebumps!

Doesn't seem the 'Astorians' thread came across.....

This was my first PJ gig having been a fan since '91 and yes, what an amazing night it was.

Am I allowed to ask someone to help me out with a bootleg? I see the posting guides say I can trade them, but unfortunately I have nothing to trade.

this night did indeed rock very hard!

I'm still sad the astoria is no more.

as an aside - I met plant and plant junior at a pub a couple of years ago, really friendly and had a nice little chat with us.

I think Ed was probably a bit too drunk to remember anything that night. He looks pretty far gone on youtube video of the band all leaving the venue.

It was a great gig. Looking back the setlist wasn't that special, but being the first euro gig in 6 years no one seemed to tell. It's kinda ironic that the gig wouldn't have had the great atmosphere if PJ hadn't been away for so long, almost made the 6 years worth it! The anticipation was tangiable, definitely a rare event since UK is usually spoiled for gigs.
    Loved it :D

I didn't even know Plant was there, until after the gig when my Mum said "Did you see Plant when you walked downstairs? You walked right by him" I was kinda shocked and upset I didn't even notice the guy :(
I took my mum to the gig because there was some confusion about changing the name of the 10c membership to my name and they weren't sure who's name the people would have on the door, so I took my mum anyway [much to the annoyance of my friends] and she loved it.

Only criticism would be THERE WAS NO POSTER!!!! :(

Which upset was slightly reduced by the fact it did have it's own t-shirt :D

A few weeks spent trying to get a ticket ... taking a half day off work ... chillin' in The Royal George ... a couple of hours before the gig being given a ray of hope I'd make it in ... then

... and I suppose meeting some of you lot was good times too
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

whilst I thought it was a good show, it wouldn't make my top 5 PJ shows, maybe just inside the top 10

seeing them in such a small venue was a great experience, however, the band were a little rusty in my humble opinion

I know, in my excitement running from the balcony to the floor I ran right past him. :(

I felt a bit mean about abandoning my mum up on the balcony! It was worth it though

I agree that they were a bit looser, but I think it's a great thing to do. It seemed more like a gig for the band to enjoy and have fun with rather than concentrate on their playing. People obsessed with spot on performances may have been a bit disappointed, but personally I love it when a band loosens up and enjoys themselves. PJ are a bit uptight sometimes, I don't think Ed would dare get so drunk at a bigger show.

Mike came up to the balcony and got a drink from the bar at the back about 30 mins or so before the show started, it was so completely random and people we still coming in / finding a space / getting drinks that no one seemed to notice him. Did anyone here see him? I gave him a rock-star handshake and said something like "have a good one mate", wish I had got the missus to take a photo but nevermind. The only thing that perplexed me was why he had to come up to that bar to get a drink.. surely they get what ever they want backstage?

Probably to see if anyone noticed him. Pearl Jam isn't the type of band to shun their fans, but they aren't the meet and greet type either.

haha, nice try. Normally it drives me mad when people say one gig was the best gig ever (screams of elitism), but to be fair, I think it's difficult to top the anticipation of first euro gig in 6 years. Shepherd's Bush will sit side by side with the Astoria I'm sure, they're both special events. :D

Astoria will be pretty much impossible to beat for a lot of people... like fowls said, it was the first Euro gig after a never-thought-it would end 6 year hiatus. In those 6 years a whole new generation of fans built up, so for many of us it was the first time seeing them live. I believe it was the first time any of the new Avocado songs had been played at a proper show, whereas Backspacer will be debuted live in Canada before SBE. To top it off, the God of Rock Robert Plant was even there :D SBE is going to be amazing, but I don't think any gig in my life is ever going to be as good as that night in April 06.

Yeah I saw him as well. It was like one of those slow motion double take moments you see in films.

this thread speaketh the truth... eth.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
