Nothing ... part of the arrangement for me switching jobs last year was that my new employer would pay for all of my insurance minus co-pays.

I have a weekly deduction of $256.30 for a family plan from Blue Cross, employer pays the Mass. required company minimum(like $150 a month, whatever 33% of a single policy is) after Catcher's Mitt Romney made health insurance mandatory for all residents and small companies in MA.

It would be $120 month for two, but my employer pays it... That's the "free" health care in Canada...

    a week?
    yikes.

i pay $45 2x a month. + $10 a month for dental. so $100 a month. of course, going up 12% as mentioned, so will be $51 2x a month, dental unaffected = 122 month. i think hubby pays about $43 every 2 weeks, but i think i have better coverage, overall. so total for both of us roughly $208 a month.

funny too, since obama took office and upped the pre-tax deductions for commutation, i was actually taking home an extra $22 a month. now i get to give it to my HMO instead. :P at least it doesn't 'cost' me more...so small blessings! :D

oh, and it IS actually cheaper for us to get our insurance as singles, on our own rather than joint. the costs for a couple are higher. people with children or spouses/children truly make out! the singles and/or child-free marrieds really foot a bigger portion of the health-care. right along with 65% of my property taxes going to school tax. c'est la vie.......

they just "jacked up" the cost....

    oh well....

$160 a month for health insurance is still a bargain.............

it's not bad, absolutely. i have CIGNA, and overall i am quite satisfied. even my dental, thru MetLife, quite pleasantly surprised. in fact, my hubby is probably going to join me on my insurance for dental only b/c his sucks, so another $9.50 a month, not too bad. it only irks me when i see the 'family plans'.....b/c yes, as i said....singles/marrieds who are child-free....we really pay MORE. i understand how it all works, but it still kinda pisses me off. between the health insurance, my property/school taxes, etc...i am paying a WHOLE LOTTA money for other people's children. i don't mind paying to support the larger community to some degree....but i do think it's a bit too far skewed towards families. but that is another topic........

My employer pays my health insurance. I am currently out of work but I have a "bank" of benefits where I am covered for the next 6-9 months. So I have until then to get my ass a job. :D

i did see your post and will say OUCH! however, at my firm...that would not be the case, not even close.

and i will also counter with:
    about $90 every 2 weeks...covers whole family...$10 co-pays.

at my firm, i'd say it's close to $350 a month for a family plan (spouses and however many kids). my husband and i pay about $210 for the 2 of us. so just saying, if someone has a family of 5 or more.....truly make out. however, i also admitted i realized the rationale behind it. but it still burns when i figure the price per person, and then when i think of my property taxes.....   hahahaha.

    and

$17.73 a month for Health Net--really happy with Health Net.

Work covers dental and vision 100%

THAT is spectacular! i don't see why that can't be the case for everyone, across the board.

  • we should put where we are located, too. Different countries, different states, have different coverage.

In NY, I pay $59 / month for health and dental for my husband and me. (Cigna)
I'm not sure how that is going to change after we add the child.....(who was supposed to be born last Tues, btw.) I'm pretty sure it goes up considerably, more than just the $30 that would make sense for a 3rd person.

I agree. When I first started here, I didn't really give a hoot about benefits. But now I realize how important they are and how lucky I am.

To the person who asked where we are from, I'm from California.

When I was working full-time at my crappy retail job I was paying $134 a month for health, and $31.98 for dental.

Since I went down to part-time I got self-coverage at $132 a month for health. But that one has a $10,000 deductible, so from my understanding any office visit I have to pay in full out of my pocket. So I never go to the doctor, just have it in case something bad happens to me!

We own our company...we pay about $1300 a month for the family. We have a $5700 deductible that goes into a HSA account pretax. Does not include glasses or dental, we can use the HSA money for them IF there is anything left over.

$228/month for family of 4. Not too bad at all.

And we don't pay anything for dental since my wife works for a dentist. That also translates into free dental work. Just had a molar crown and didn't pay a dime.

I have to pay co-pays of $5-$15 for health and I think I have to pay %20 of the Dental cost if it's major.

well i pay $90 a month for CIGNA, + $10 for dental just for me and i live on long island too! so it's not just where you live or even what HMO...but i guess who your employer is! i thought i had pretty damn fine benefits and decently priced, but i look at what some of you pay each month, and yes...i am envious! as i posted earlier, for hubby and me it's roughly $210 a month total. i can't get over how little some of you pay! lucky, lucky!

  • As i'm employed, I pay taxes towards the NHS and do not pay directly when I need health care.

I pay for my dental care but the most that will ever be in one installment is £198... and that would be if I fucked my teeth up really bad. Last time I went I paid £44 for a scale and polish, a front root filling, 7 x-rays and a referal to the hospital to have my wisdom teeth out.

Wife and I pay 1000 combined a year extra in taxes for a health care premium,, and the on top of that we pay some of the highest taxes in the west for government run health (live in Ontario). But I'll bet most of you Americans get far better health services than we do.
