There are certainly some shitty parts of Memphis but I have been a frequent visitor over the last 15 years or so and have never really felt like my safety was in danger. I, however, don't stray into the areas that don't seem as safe. I wouldn't expect anyone to have any trouble around Beale Street as cops are all over the place...just stay out of the alleys!!

You'll be okay in Memphis "Whitepants". I've been to Belle Isle in Detroit. My bestfriend worked in Birmingham & I had nothing to do....so, Belle Isle looked really appitizing. She called me & told me that Belle Isle is a place I DID NOT need to be.
Thanks Ozark - btw, Belle Isle isn't so dangerous. Like all public urban areas, practice common sense and you'll be ok.

The only problems I have had on my visits to Memphis are the panhandlers, who can be rather persistent. Oh yeah, and having to walk by the poor carriage horses on Beale who are hot and tired from having to haul a bunch of fat asses around all day.

I've been reading some of the suggestions for hotels, and things to do in Memphis. I have a few questions for those of you that have been there before... Is the Holiday Inn any good? The prices seem reasonable from what I've read, and it's located right off Beale. What about the Sleep Inn? Any other suggestions for decent places to stay that are under $200 per night?
I'm trying to base my hotel decisions off cost, safety, distance from Beale, and distance from the Orpheum. Also, how far is ther Orpheum Theatre from Beale?

I have never stayed at the Holiday Inn but have stayed at the Sleep Inn several times although it has been a few years. Sleep Inn used to be a nice joint.

Sleep Inn is pretty good. Small rooms, but a nice hotel. They have outside parking and someone stole the beer and gatorade out of our cooler one time.
We have also stayed at the Comfort Inn which is west of the Sleep Inn on the same street. It is old, but it is the only good Comfort Inn I have ever stayed at. It has been a couple of years now, but we stayed there about three years in a row for the Beale Street Music Festival. It was very clean and the staff was very nice and friendly. They have a parking garage too.

I signed up for Memphis.. Totally random since I live in Chicago but being a saturday show, my husband and I would make a weekend trip out of it. I had so much fun at the last night in Chicago on the previous tour, I would love to go again! I actually got shut out last time and ended up getting ticket master limited view seats just to get in the building. When we got there and sat in our seats, an EV staff member came up to us and plucked us from the back of the building and gave us new tickets to the very front row. Needless to say I got to lean on the stage all night and shake Ed's hand.
I hope to get in to an Ed show because if PJ tours in August/Sept I'm out.. I'm having a baby in Sept!

Yeah! It was awesome! Everyone in the very front row was plucked from crappy seats in the back. It seriously was like a dream or a movie.. When they sent us down to the front row I was totally sure they gave us bogus tickets and some big bouncer was going to eject my giddy ass right out from the building.

I guess I only got the chance for a rollover show in Memphis. I got an email saying congrats for the rollover show. What if there isn't a rollover show? I guess I should be happy, but scared I won't get any show now.

Me too... got an email saying I got the rollover in Memphis but not the main show.
I am thinking this rollover shit really sucks! It says that the rollover show won't be confirmed until AFTER public sale. Which means if I try with Ticketmaster for Memphis 1 and Nashville and get them, and then also get the rollover show, then I have tickets to 3 shows. If I don't try for the public sales, and there is no rollover, then I am really screwed.
