i'd call winning the division in historic fashion in 07 a good season too. especially since it broke a 15 year playoff-less drought. so, if you're scoring at home, that is 1 good season, 1 great season, and one potentially great season 3/4ths of the way complete. and get ready for at least 2 more coming after that.
god i love this game!
I think calling what the Phillies did "winning the division in historic fashion" a complete (and probably deliberate) misrepresentation of what happened that season. Sure, the Phillies had a good team that year, but they didn't win the division in a historic fashion. It was the Mets that LOST the season in a historic fashion. And there is definitely an important (or maybe not so important) difference.
the phillies won 9 out 10 at one point and 13-4 overall to close out the season...including a 3 game sweep of the, then division leading, mets in shea stadium.
when a team is that hot down the stretch and a team totally collapses like that, yes, i would say that be pretty historic on both ends. the phils were written off by everyone including that writer from the ny post, i believe, but they came out guns blazing in september. they were not just handed the nl east division crown like you guys make it out.......but it is fun to see all your frustrations about that year, 2 seasons removed from it though!www.myspace.com0 -
god what a useless back and forth this page has turned into. seriously who gives a shit what happened 2-3 years ago or even last year. this is turning into whose got the biggest cock contest. i understand it's really cool to see your team win a championship your lifetime. i feel your pain in having your team suck year after year but it's getting to the point beating of a dead horse. no I'm not jealous or anything, i could give a shit really what the phils do. enjoy your championship all you want but don't be a dick bout it and make the thread more boring than it already is. i hardly ever wanna post in here cause all i see is silly high school bickering.
i love how this bullpen sucks even when the season is dead. omar sure put together a stellar bullpen, .Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight

Yes, for those scoring at home...as you recall in 2007, the fighting Phills would not have had the opportunity to get swept in the playoffs if it weren't for the Mets losing 57 games in a row to the Marlins, Braves and the Nationals in historic fashion. -1..this year is not over -2..still equals 1 good season..at least in reference to this article regarding missing the Mets..lol..
God this game is brutal..
just because you're bitter about your shitty team, you cannot discredit the phils for winning 17 of 18 or whatever it was down the stretch that year, stretch.
division championship = good season
world fucking champions = .........wait for it......here it comes..... great season.
come on dude. enough of the bitterness.
Just annoying how some of the fans act like their the Yankees now because they won one championship..if you want to take all the credit for 2007, go for it, but it's not reality..but not seeing the playoffs for over 15 years can definitely lower your standards for what's considered good..let it go already! Don't make me get pjhawks over here to tell you to stop talking about the damn Phillies in a Met thread..

the mets collapsed and the phils won 13 of 17 including a huge 3 game sweep at shea down the stretch. so you got a choke for the ages and a team playing about as hot as one can down the stretch. credit goes to both teams. i never said the phils should "take all the credit." that's ridiculous. takes two to tango my friend.
and, just so you know, we realize we dont have 26 championships. but its just a lot of fun to annoy met fans that way

I still feel that this ballpark must be cursed, because there is no other logical explanation for everything that has occurred on and off the field this season..but if 'the core' comes back healthy next season and a decent starting pitcher is added, we'll have a shot..'I want to hurry home to you

We desperately need a real OF/1B - at least one who can hit for average/power. Matt Holliday would be great.
Also, we need a real #2 SP and probably a decent #3.
That with a healthy team would go a long way.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane0 -
mets should get carl crawford(free agent after this season) and doc halladay and Adrian Gonzalez. those are the 3 the mets should target in the offseason. matt holliday is over rated and cant play the outfield. hes like daniel murphy just with better power. we need guys who can play the outfield and have a arm and not guys who will strikeout 100 times and drive in 30 homers.
1. reyes
2. crawford
3. beltran
4. gonzalez
5. wright
6. francoeur
7. santos/thole
8. castillo
a lineup like that should contend for the division and go deep into the playoffsRon: I just don't feel like going out tonight

Carl Crawford is not necessarily a free agent after this season. He has a $10 mil club option that many people think they will pick up to possibly trade him. With a .302/.357/.445 line and 57 stolen bases the club can easily pick up his option and trade him.
And how exactly is Minaya going to trade for Adrian Gonzalez and Halladay? I would love to hear this0 -

I hear you that the Padres want to unload him but with his numbers I think he might cost a bit more than that. Parnell and F-Mart are unproven but Pagan definitely has a lot of value. The upside for the Padres in that is that they are all very cheap.
Have you seen the reports as to what the Red Sox supposedly offered for Halladay? Riccardi should be fired immediatly for not taking it if it's true. To be fair Theo denied that was their offer.0 -
No way Adrian gonzalez is a Met anytime soon. He's from the San Diego area, their most popular player, and is of mexican descent, which helps sell tickets in SD. Very highly doubtful they'd trade him, and if they did, 28 clubs with much better prospects to offer would be lining up. Unless The Padres are interested in washed up 30 something Latino has-beens,.............0

Listen, say what you want about Holliday's defense, but to say all he does is hit 30 HR a year is just not looking at the stats. The guy is a stud on offense.
His average career numbers are: .318 BA, 43 2B, 29 HR, 113 RBI, 109 Runs, 15 SB, .933 OPS.
(Sadly for us) Daniel Murphy will never be half the player the Matt Holliday is.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane0 -

Maybe they're cursed because they took the money of a company that was so incompetent it needed the goverment to bail them out. Or maybe they're cursed because they're linked up with a company that laid of 50,000 employees because its' money was used on the face of a ballpark.Reading 2004
