Except every moment, uslessly spent bitching about fly swatting or fish throwing is a wasted moment that could have been spent trying to stop monkeys from getting hit in the head with hammers (or any other actual form of animal cruelty). It also kills their credibility, so that if tomorrow they were to issue a press release about something important (like monkeys getting hit with hammers) more people would dismiss it as more crazy crap from PETA.
whatever the details, i'm glad PETA is around. they may be wasting their time, but that' isn't always the case. i think its about sensationalism, the very popular president swats a fly, they try to save the flys, trying to stay relevant, even if its a worthless cause.

But it actually pushes them towards irrelevance, since when people thing of PETA instead of thinking of the group that stops real cruelty towards animals, they think of those crazy nuts who are against fly swatting. And if people think of them as crazy, they are less likely to donate to PETA.

I thought the number one ingredient in all meat products was deliciousness.
  • I agree with all posters who assert PETA presents a confusing public presence. Sometimes I wonder whether some in the organization actually want to discredit animal rights. But a recent hassling of Jonathan Sundstrom's Seattle restaurant, Lark, which strongly supports responsible and sustainable food production, and the headline grab about the president's fly swatting, or the fish throwing [a direct jab at labor, to me] seem to subvert the important message to respect animals (especially if you eat them). Not every group needs a slick message, but I'm afraid I remember Cointelpro, when the FBI infiltrated leftist political organizations. The government's irrational preference to persecute animal rights activists while ignoring criminal threats and actions against medical clinics and cultural sites echoes this history. No answers, but many questions.

Okay - I've held my tongue long enough on this subject. You are all entitled to your opinion regarding PETA. I don't care if you support them or not. I don't care how you feel about them - or how "crazy" and "bazaar" this movement is. You either support their cause - or you don't. I DO.....I have for MANY years - and will continue to do so - as well as ASPCA. No matter what cause anyone supports (and hopefully you ALL support at least ONE worthy cause - or shut the fuck up) It ALL matters. Seriously.

What does this even mean? I'm qualified on the M-16. Are you stating that I'm a monkey - whom by the way are very intelligent beings - probably more so than you, with all due respect.

Great point! They aren't perfect, but at least they're out there trying. I'm glad as well.

  • The insect loving community found this inconsistency. I'm still concerned that PETA's actions sometimes subvert its message.

    Ok, quick butt-in here.

    Hell yea, fuck PETA!

There’s over 50 million PEOPLE in this country that often are treated like they’re subhuman in ways you can’t imagine because the media ignores their issuses.

    The disabled community.

If we can treat people right first, how is there any hope of treating animals right?

I personally dedicate my life to fighting for those whom have no voice -or little of it as well as those whom have a HUGE voice regarding these issues.... I want THEIR voices to be VERY STRONG! This includes the elderly, the "disabled" (whom- BTW -are a HUGE community of VOTERS) as well as ANIMALS. PETA is NOT "irrelevent." Oh - I just have way to much to say on all three. that I just can't waste it on this sight.

I am trying to be as kind as I can. Yes - there are certainly HUMANS on this planet being mistreated. Such as the "Stonings" of women in the Middle East, or for THAT matter the "loppiing off" of heads. There is "gassing" in other countrie's - of their own people. In other countries----the first stages of "Nuclear Armament", not to mention -"Sweat Shops." This ALL SUCKS!. But DO NOT arbitrarilily (sp?) dismiss the treatment nor the rights - of animals in the process of your "thinking.". Even the treatment of animals deserves deep consideration. Even yours.
