PETA does much more GOOD than HARM.
They have saved so much senseless torture of animals, but lets focus on red paint on a fur coat instead.0 -

Name one single advocacy group that got anything done without a holier than thou attitude. The whole idea of advocacy is to say the status quo is wrong.cropduster82 wrote:Commy wrote:yeah we should be able to torture animals if we want. goddamn PETA.
Right, and they should be able to throw paint on someone who wears fur. Just cause you don't agree with it, doesn't make it right. I don't agree with torturing animals. In fact, I think it's horrific and those who do it should be punished severely. Point is, animal torture still happens even though PETA exists. It will happen if they don't. It's sad but true. I don't like PETA because of the holier than thou attitude of the organization. I mean they protested the Westminster Dog Show dressed as the KKK! Yes, goddamn PETA. Because you breed a show dog, it's animal cruelty. And don't eat meat, or chicken. Where will it end? It's obvious they can't care for all the animals they claim they save and the above article speaks for itself. It's hypocritical.

But dumb-ass stunts like releasing minks from a mink farm into the English countryside was worse than torture for both the native fauna and the minks....just a bunch of stupid, misguided people who have no clue how the natural world really works. :evil:Smellyman wrote:PETA does much more GOOD than HARM.

I agree 100%. It seems to me that PETA spends all of their money on advertising, and trying to convert people to veganism, than they do saving animals. I currently work at an animal shelter, and I can tell you right now that a 95% euthanasia rate is ridiculous, and if our shelter had a 95% euthanasia rate we'd all be fired. Our shelter doesn't have money for a vet on staff, xray machine, and many otherthings that are vital to a shelter, but we make do with what we have. I can guarantee you right now that if we hadthe budget that PETA has we'd probably have a 0% euthanasia rate.
I'm also highly offended by the person in the article who talks about the people in the shelter who don't care about euthanizing animals and stepping on them like it's nothing. It's funny that this thread is on here today because I had a really fucked up day because I had to euthanize a cat(at the end of the day to top it off) who about 5 days ago was a healthy cat. I felt really bad about doing it, and when I went to euthanize him he gave me a pitiful meow, and it broke my fucking heart. When I got home and told the story to someone else I couldn't help but cry. If our shelter had PETA's budget we could have saved that cat, but instead I come home feeling like a horrible person thinking that there may have been something else I could do(even though in reality, I could do nothing because our budget doesn't allow it). So fuck PETA for making me feel like a shitty person, and shame on them for spending their money foolishly. They should be ashamed.Walking is still honest0 -

PETA to Pet Shop Boys: Rescue Shelter Boys, perhaps?
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Just because they named their new CD "Yes," does not mean that British electro-pop duo, the Pet Shop Boys, will agree to just about anything.
PETA has asked the Pet Shop Boys to change the band's name to Rescue Shelter Boys.
PETA has asked the Pet Shop Boys to change the band's name to Rescue Shelter Boys.
The band has turned down a request from an animal rights group to rename itself the Rescue Shelter Boys.
The organization, the People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals (PETA), sent a letter to Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe acknowledging that its request, at first blush, might appear "bizarre."
But, by changing its name, the band could raise awareness at every tour stop of the "cramped, filthy conditions" that breeders keep animals in before selling them to pet stores, PETA said in its letter.
The duo, which has performed under its current name for more than 20 years, reproduced PETA's written request in full on its Web site.
The musicians said they were "unable to agree" to the request "but nonetheless think (it) raises an issue worth thinking about."
The animal rights group said it was pleased the Pet Shop Boys had drawn attention to the issue by posting its letter so prominently on the band's site. Talking about its campaign on a blog entry, a PETA staffer wrote:
"I think I may have to stick "West End Girls" on my iPod right now to celebrate."
"West End Girls" is one of the many hits the group has had in its long career.
PETA is no stranger to oddball campaigns. A recent one was aimed to re-christen fish as "sea kittens" because "who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten?"<!-- Facebook Fan Badge START --><div style="width: 100%;"><div style="background: #3B5998;padding: 5px;"><img src="http://www.facebook.com/images/fb_logo_small.png" alt="Facebook"/><img src="http://badge.facebook.com/badge/147713062953.614141056.2133926001.png" alt="" width="0" height="0"/></div><div style="background: #EDEFF4;display: block;border-right: 1px solid #D8DFEA;border-bottom: 1px solid #D8DFEA;border-left: 1px solid #D8DFEA;margin: 0px;padding: 0px 0px 5px 0px;"><div style="background: #EDEFF4;display: block;padding: 5px;"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0"><tr><td valign="top"><img src="http://www.facebook.com/images/icons/fbpage.gif" alt=""/></td><td valign="top"><p style="color: #808080;font-family: verdana;font-size: 11px;margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;padding: 0px 8px 0px 8px;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/donny.anderson3" title="Donny Anderson" target="_TOP" style="color: #3B5998;font-family: verdana;font-size: 11px;font-weight: normal;margin: 0px;padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;text-decoration: none;">Donny Anderson</a> is a fan of</p></td></tr></table></div><div style="background: #FFFFFF;clear: both;display: block;margin: 0px;overflow: hidden;padding: 5px;"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0"><tr><td valign="middle"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Seattle-WA/All-Thats-Sacred/147713062953" title="All That's Sacred" target="_TOP" style="border: 0px;color: #3B5998;font-family: verdana;font-size: 12px;font-weight: bold;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;text-decoration: none;"><img src="http://www.facebook.com/profile/pic.php?oid=AAAAAwAgACAAAAAMe57NWURaItSTAkndkF9yqc7YLeudXUlRbmI8Zlgt-969scmCqdU_G75K8TUPm74XnrGy4aB9ajQkobWBvlZyhgM-q2b4ag6Rsz_-7m8GsQaFt3vc_HiYJNPN_5g-HvB-&size=square" style="border: 0px;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;" alt="All That's Sacred"/></a></td><td valign="middle" style="padding: 0px 8px 0px 8px;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Seattle-WA/All-Thats-Sacred/147713062953" title="All That's Sacred" target="_TOP" style="border: 0px;color: #3B5998;font-family: verdana;font-size: 12px;font-weight: bold;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;text-decoration: none;">All That's Sacred</a></td></tr></table></div></div><div style="display: block;float: right;margin: 0px;padding: 4px 0px 0px 0px;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/fanbadges.php" title="Create your Fan Badge" target="_TOP" style="color: #3B5998;font-family: verdana;font-size: 11px;font-weight: none;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;text-decoration: none;">Create your Fan Badge</a></div></div><!-- Facebook Fan Badge END -->0 -

PETA targets Seattle tradition: Pike Place fish throwers
By ERIN COVEY
KIRO Radio
Listen to Erin's report
PETA has taken a stand against one of the most popular tourist attractions in Seattle - the fish market at the Pike Place Market that tosses salmon.
PETA spokesman David Shirk says you would never see a mammal being tossed around, so why is it ok for a fish? "The fact that it's ok to do it with fish is kinda inconsistent."
PETA heard that the American Veterinary Medical Association planned a Pike Place Fish Market demonstration at next month's convention at the convention center.
PETA sent a letter to the association saying people who care about animals are appalled fish would be treated as toys. PETA believes veterinarians should show compassion.
"We're asking them to not engage in this pretty absurd fish toss," Shirk said, "and if they are bent on still doing it, PETA has offered to buy rubber fish for them to use instead."
An assistant manager at the Pike Place Fish Market, Justin Hall, says workers there respect fish because it's their livelihood and they take pride in having the best seafood.
Taho Kakutani has been tossing fish for four years, he says potential customers get into the tossing and the shouting, so they're sticking with it, but he did say "You know, I have nothing against PETA... really they're in support of life and really how can you, ultimately, disagree with them."

the fish are dead, no?
i mean, i understand that yea, most wouldn't go around throwing around dead cats or pigs.....eeewwwww. but given the fish are dead, wtf difference does it really make? i am all for respect, but i think this is taking it a wee bit too far. i think there are bigger fights to be fought for animal rights than dead fish throwing, but hey, that's just me...Stay with me...

What mammal do Americans consume on a regular basis that could be tossed in such a manner????? Cows? Pigs? Deer? Elk? Goats? The only one that comes close is rabbit, but it is a fringe meat..as in it isn't consumed by a large percent of the population...ever heard of a "rabbit market"? Another dumb-ass statement from the group that leads the world in outrageous and stupid statements. PETA members have brains about as advanced and large as a fish. :twisted:bigeye21 wrote:

PITA apparantly has no members with gills since there is no outrage over Glen Beck who
Sliced a large fish, salmon I think from the chin all the way through the belly to the tail.
then took the dead animal and moved its mouth with a silly voice to demonstrate how silly politicians can be
then turned this animal over, showing its exposed insides... then tearing the spine out to show that fish have a spine while politicians did not seem to.
if it were a young girl gutted on television, people would be upset
if it were a kitten yes
but apparantly it a fish is not one of God's creatures, it is fine to mutilate them for fun in public.0 -
