Is it known PJ Ten Club members are not, I hope, new age hippies? Maybe some fans are. Yes, I know neo-hippies are alive and well in 2009 hence the almost 200 of them arrested in Virginia last weekend at fucking Phish reunion shows, yikes! Don't get me wrong, I respect the hippies WHO ACTUALLY LIVED THROUGH THE 1960s & EARLY 70s and who are my parents' age. Seriously though, that time period is dead and gone. So for anyone who is a part of this generation & thinks that its still ok to "tune in, drop out" whatever in today's world is no better than a hillbilly gitty git gitten-r-done living in the 1950s values republican! The only good hippie is one who wakes up, puts down the pipe and converts to the real world, as in now, the 21st century...thank you

so, in theory, shouldn't he not be in school, wear clothes, or eat? what people go through in africa is tragic and to make a statement like that is idiotic. your not wearing shoes isn't gonna make them better. it's not like he gave someone in africa the shoes. i hate these kinds of hippies that believe they need to live like a destitute person to be sympathetic to what's going on or think it even helps a little. if someone truly cares, i dunno, try donating something? go to the peace corps? actually DO something beneficial for someone instead of failing to make a statement? i dunno i'm just throwing around ideas here...

figures someone with a name like dischord vision would start a thread like this. let me ask you this were you around the time period of dischord and sst DIY movement in the 80's. oh wait you weren't cause i just checked your post history and you were 16 in 96. also further reading through your post you seem to have a warped sense of view bout people who listen to hippie music. being a hippie isn't a bout the music, its bout the values and belief you stick with. kinda shocking someone with a name like dischord vision cant see that. am i hippie cause i like the grateful dead, not at all. s. let me ask you this would you rather have a drunk that's swaying back and forth and singing in his horrible voice and yelling out for the 100th time play jeremy or have someone smoking pot that's standing in his seat area and not bothering your seat area and enjoying the music.also you made a thread just like this one saying enough with the grateful dead comparisons we get it you don't like hippies. nothing like beating a broken record to death.

Some of us here actually did live through that time period and might be offended by what seems like a somewhat superiority complex. I find it a little hard to determine what the difference is between people who were born in the 40's and 50's instead of the 70's and 80's except the calendar. You are judging people on what? How they look or what year they were born? The insults you spew at them can be just as easily applied to people who " WHO ACTUALLY LIVED THROUGH THE 1960s & EARLY 70s".

I have no idea how this relates to Pearl Jam other than your clever way of asking a pointless question with the words Pearl Jam in it. Here is some unsolicited advice for you to stay in your 21st century comfort zone, stay away from Phish, Dead and ABB shows, you may bump into some dirty old hippies. You may even bump into me!

If people don't want to wear shoes and they want to have dirty long hair it's their choice.... 8-)

The lifestyle of real hippies is nothing to aspire to! It can best be described as a downward spiral.

Most of the idiots who got arrested at the Phish shows were not "hippies" or, what you called them, "Neo Hippies". They were idiot newcomers to the scene who think it's all about getting f'd up and being spun out of your mind. Newcomers who are into the music, no matter what band, are ALWAYS welcome. The same thing happened in the Phish scene in the latter 90's and then for the post-hiatus tours in 02 through 04. You don't even know what you are raging against man. I've seen more idiotic things in PJ lots than I ever have at a Phish lot.
Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"
  • Its amazing how many people post here just to pick on another type or grouping of people here. I don't get it! If you don't like hippies or neo-hippies, then stay away from 'em. But don't criticize their beliefs or lifestyle. it really shouldn't mattter to you how someone else is. They are enjoying the same freedoms you are, just expressing it differently.

Why can't we all just get along? I'll rock out with anyone, anywhere, anytime just to meet someone new and I'm pretty sure i'll walk away a better person for the experience. Its what life is about. Learn and enjoy interactions with others that are different. I don't want to be surrounded by a bunch of cloned, boring folk. Give me some variety. I love it!

You don't have to be young or a hippie to screw up a show. I've seen many older business type people drink themselves into the most annoying, loud, obnoxious people who don't even care about the band playing. But its their choice, I guess. just rock out and enjoy. If you spend time worrying about others, how can you have a good time. The decade doesn't matter. We've all done things we've regretted. We just learn from it and move on.

  • I don't see the problem and I certainly don't see a connection to Pearl Jam.

Hippies of all ages are usually peaceful people who yeah, smoke a bit of pot and listen to the Grateful Dead (who, I might add, are really rather good) but their main aim in life is to appreciate the world around them and help make this shit covered planet we call home, a better place.

I wish a few more people had hippie-esque values. The world would be a more beautiful place and we'd have less people coming onto internet message boards spouting their prejudices against other people's lifestyle choices.

Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

How the hell are you in the fanclub? Eddie Vedder isn't a drunk. You try going through the 1990s & come out clean w/ a clear head, better than most of PJ's peers. Blink 182 pic? seriously you're part of that hey, if a band sells a million records then they can headline on tour w/ Bad Religion 10 years ago. Bad Religion are punk pioneers & how they agreed to open for whiny SoCal white boys is a disgrace. If you're just standing in your seat smoking pot you're obviously bothering somebody, not to mention security about to bust you dumbass! What I learned from the D.C. era & yes I did this listen to their music in the 1980s w/ my older cousins, was why put yourself through that? Why consistently risk getting caught all because you wanted to get high? It's not worth it. There's too many negatives that outweigh the positives. Prisons are full of them! Thank you

agreed. I just wanted to make light of the whole Phish situation last weekend. I thought here we go again, these people never learn. Drugs are in fact bad when not used in moderation. Yes, the government's fucked up but one thing I believe they got right is the war on drugs. It ruins lives, makes good normal people assholes & they lose insight and rational decision making over time...it's a fact...prisons are full of them
