U2 announces their North American tour tomorrow and Chicago is already listed as the start of the American tour on september 12th... any chance of pearl jam possibly opening up for them again?

Think about it... fall tour, dates are set, they have already opened for u2 in the past, maybe a couple of shows?
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

I hope not too, but it wouldnt surprise me either if they show up as the opening act for some cities they might not hit on their supposed 2009 fall tour.

I hope not. I hate U2. Their new album SUCKS! Besides PJ is too popular of a band to be an opening act. They can sell out any place on their own...they don't need to be an opening act.

I would be at that show in a heartbeat.

I hope it happens -- my two favorite bands playing Soldier Field.

You're delusional if, one, you think the new U2 album is crap (you probably haven't heard anything but the single, which is too bad) and two, you think Pearl Jam could sell out Soldier Field or any stadium on their own. That time has passed, sadly, for them.

Saying the most popular band in the world should open for Pearl Jam just shows what that chart I posted the other might be right: Pearl Jam fans are dumber than most (I don't believe that).
My Pearl Jam Road: 10/22/90 Seattle | 12/22/90 Seattle, Moore Theater | 9/29/92 Seattle, Magnusson Park, Drop in the Park | 9/5/93 The Gorge, with Neil Young and Blind Melon | 7/20/06 Portland, Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall with Sleater-Kinney | 7/22/06 The Gorge, 10/21/06 Mountain View, Shoreline Ampitheatre, Bridge School Benefit | 9/21/09 Seattle | 9/22/09 Seattle | 9/26/09 Portland, OR | 7/14/2011 Eddie Vedder, Portland, OR | 11/29/13 Portland, OR

I agree that Pearl Jam is a headlining band at an arena, but U2 is doing a stadium tour.

I think U2 might go after a few big bands to open for them to help them fill the larger venues. Pearl Jam has opened for them before on the Zoo TV tour and in Hawaii.

Eddie, on the other hand, is completely different story?

I wonder if some U2 fans hate Pearl Jam for the same reasons some Pearl Jam fans hate U2...wouldn't that be a trip?

What, other than being commercially successful their entire career, has U2 done that makes them SOOOO much different that Pearl Jam?

I'd be done for some U2/PJ shows any day.

I've downloaded their latest record, weeks before the album was released in stores. IMO, as much as the record has been advertised to oblivion on air, sea & land, it will win all the billboards, grammy's, hip hop, dance, country awards there are. Funny they win all these awards now, with another mediocre album, but they didn't win much awards during the good old day's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aw ... ived_by_U2 :|

If Pearl Jam starts making commercials, released & hour after hour dozen music videos played on TV, advertising goods & services, sell out BIG TIME, etc .. You don't think TODAY .. Pearl Jam could sell out Soldier Field or any stadium? :? Pearl Jam is doing great now. They don't' need to do what U2 does.

You know it, and many U2 fans know it. Old U2 stuff, their records kick ass! Newer U2 stuff, only buy/download their radio hit singles, cause it's not worth buying their full record .. AT ALL!

Magnificent is the best track on the album and is another classic U2 song in their arsenal.
You can have the rest of the album. :D

Can't see it happening. Just because they opened for them once doesn't mean they will open for them again. In the new interview, EV talks about Seattle being "home"... chicago doesn't mean squat...

Well, I don't think you can actually say "Chicago doesn't mean squat" but no, Pearl Jam is way too big to open for U2.

How can Pearl Jam be too big to open for U2 if they did so just a few years ago?

The original post says that the tour starts in Chicago, but doesn't suggest that Pearl Jam open that particular show. Maybe they'll open up somewhere out west...

I think the point D is trying to make is that if PJ had shamelessly self promoted for the last 10-14 years like U2 has instead of stepping back from the limelight, you know made videos and ipods and all that commercial crap that it is plausible that, yes, they would be able to sell out 50,000 seat stadiums like soldier field, he is not saying they could.

The new U2 album is fucking great. Breathe, Unknown Caller and Stand Up Comedy are even
better than the early singles. But that's just one person's opinion.

I just wouldn't want PJ opening because of the shorter set they would likely play and the possible
reduction of 10C seats. But if it happened, I'd still be there in a heartbeat.

    U2 haters crack me up.

I have listened to U2's new album and I can honestly say I do not like any of the songs. I do like their songs from the early 80's but anything after that time is CRAP! U2 is way too commercial for my liking and Bono is annoying!

It is very hard to get Pearl Jam tickets as it is...do you really want them as an opening act for U2 where they will only play a short set? Or would you rather have them do their own tour where they will play 2+ hours???

I would rather see Pearl Jam in an arena as opposed to a stadium anyways.

Really, Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are crap? You guys crack me up.

For one thing, U2 didn't get a cent for doing the iTunes commercials? It was done to promote legal downloading. Do your research. Not sure how that's selling out.

As far as promoting their new album, what do you expect? They've just poured everything into making a new album. They want people to hear it and everyone seems to be scrambling to get them on their shows.

When Avacado came out, I couldn't change the channel without seeing TV ads for the album, Pearl Jam on SNL, the band doing Storytellers.

    Which I thought was great.

It's called promotion. ANd the new U2 album is amazing. Best track: Moment of Surrender.

I love Pearl Jam, but they are not too big to open for U2.

In 1992, they were arguably the biggest and in the world and they still opened for U2 in Europe. I would live to see it happen again.
