No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Not that I think they would ever consider this... but...

Knowing how much Ed is in love with Corin Tucker, that would be the only one they'd consider. And I can't stand her voice. She has ruined any bootleg on which she appears, grinding it to a halt of screech.

Besides, my unwritten rule is that when bands start getting backing musicians to cover parts (or whatever), it's a sign of when they start to really suck. Happens all the time. Somehow, Pearl Jam was able to survive this curse when they added Boom, perhaps by only having him play on certain songs (although let's face it, any time there's a piano solo--not a B3 solo, but a piano, it's pretty horrible...see RITF, In My Tree (although that is B3), etc).

Don't push it with any other members. No way.

Wow. A lot of hating on the idea of a female back up singer in this supposedly 'male' art form. Can't say I'm picking up what those people are putting down. I don't know if anyone here has listed to much Pink Floyd, but their female back up singers sound fantastic. I don't think it would work for the majority of songs- Spin the Black Circle, how the hell would you pull that off? But take something atmospheric like You Are and this could add a really cool dimension. I'm not suggesting Bette Midler being the wind beneath Given to Fly, but c'mon

Usually bands that get back-up singers, and previously hadn't had them, its 'cuz they are getting old and can't project their voice as well. NO, no, no... Eddie is doing just fine.

I do have to say that I LOVE Ed signing "Helpless" with EJ. I think her voice sounds great with him, at least on that song.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said this before when the boots first came out and everyone was shocked that I would say this- they were horrible!!!

Everyone minus me. I'm sure they're nice as people and everything but that WMA participation was just horrid. Please don't do it again. As far as female back-up singer goes, well, the same thinking applies to that as well.

Yeah, good point. That was plain gorgeous! I guess EJ would be the exception to the rule.

Uhm..There are so many, but here are a few:
    Heart
    Crissie Hynde (Pretenders)
    Fleetwood Mac (Stevie)
    Joan Jett
    Jefferson Airplane (Grace Slick)
Sleater-Kinney (as long as they stuck to their own stuff, they were pretty good)
    Patti Fuckin Smith!!!!
    JANIS JOPLIN!
And finally, thousands and thousands of girl bands everywhere rocking it out at small clubs, bars every day!!!

And this is just a tiny tiny list. So, I would say open your eyes and have some respect :D

Grace Slick in the early days of JA..awesome!

    Janis Joplin...nuff said!

Stevie Nicks??...not what I'd call "rock" but very nice none the less!

I'd puke. I understand that bands evolve but I hope pearl jam does not go in this direction. For a vast majority of their songs, it just does not make sense. I might be able to tolerate it for a couple songs. Maybe.

I don't really like it when there are so many people on stage that it looks & sounds like a three-ring circus, but maybe some people like that?! :geek:

Sometimes I don't know why I bother reading this message board. I can't believe that people get away with statements like these.

For the record, I'm not interesting in seeing PJ add another singer, but statements like the ones above make me wish they'd invite the lady from Deerhoof to sing with the band . . .

They don't get away with it. See my response to his post on the previous page. Also, yeah, I don't like the idea of adding a female back up singer to Pearl Jam but this doesn't mean Female rockers don't deserve their place in "Rock World".
Never heard of a band named Deerhoof but I am guessing that chick's voice might be annoying. :D

It's such a shame about EJ Barnes. She has a pretty decent voice, however, her stage presence is just AWFUL, in my opinion. I'd be more than happy to hear either Cat Power or Chrissie Hynde for a few songs in a show, however. Could you picture Eddie and Cat doing Indifference, for example? Or Eddie and Chrissie alternating verses for Hitchhiker!?

i loved the Cat Power songs that Ed sang on. If there was a female singer, she'd have to be someone who could actually sing - not image/front-woman focused (ie NOT Corin Tucker, etc). would need to be someone with a wide vocal range, and can do low range stuff to compliment Eds vocals would be great to hear: EJ Barnes did that pretty well too.

Camille O'Sullivan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NBP4kIFyVo (Nick Cave song)

It's not a sexism thing. It's a "I don't like female singers, singing over rock music" thing. I verified in another post that it's just not my thing. I like a few here and there, but as a whole, anything with a female lead singer I find to be pretty horrible.

Black Crowes and Pink Floyd are 2 of my favorite bands and there is plenty of female singin there.

I can't believe people can actually jump to conclusions in a display of such douchery. Don't be so fuckin judgemental.

I simply posted the logical conclusions I drew based on what I've read. I'm not interested in name calling or telling others to "pull the stick out of their asses." (Not your words of course, though "douchery" isn't much better)
