It's a stupid marketing ploy for this reissue. This band used to be above gimmicky marketing ploys. Used to be.

why you getting so worked up over a stupid puzzle game on their website? who cares? its a dumb game. it sucks. but, why anyone would give more than precisly 1 shit about this is beyond me.....good god.

It's gimmicky as hell. That's why. I think it screams of selling out.

selling out? putting a dumb game on their website that not a lot of people will even see is selling out?! you cannot be serious!!

you're selling out. you fucking sell out.

lol....im sorry. but this is the dumbest thing i've heard in quite a while. now i know why i dont visit this place as much as i used to.

Yeah...this was a Sony/Epic thing, not a band thing. So they really aren't involved with this other than having to go along with someone else's promotion scheme....that's business for ya....

 REALITY CHECK PEOPLE...I GUARANTEE we wouldn't see this from PJ back in 96...The times they are-a-changin...

why wouldn't we have seen this from the band back in 1996?

someone please explain to me how a dumb puzzle game on their website that hardly anyone will even see even remotely comes close to "selling out?"

some of you people take this shit WAY too seriously. its rather amusing actually...

This is how I honestly think PJ handles their marketing lately....

Ed: "ok ya whatever, make some puzzle game, yea cool verizon ringtones whatever sounds good. Just do me favor and dont advertise it alot"

Seriously, they are doing all of this "sellout worthy stuff" BUT you dont see this crap being show on TV, you dont hear it on E!, MTV, or any stupid popular pop mainstream thing. They do it, they just dont expose it alot. Almost as if they only want their "real" fans to know about it and thats it.

The fact that this thread has had as many posts as it has it a little bit sad, in my eyes. The band is free to make their own decisions.

i think everyone continues to lose sight of this point...

although pearl jam as a band and management have done so much for us fans to make themselves so accessible to us, and cater to all of us fans to make us happy... what it comes down to is this... PEARL JAM DOESNT OWE ANYONE ANYTHING!

pearl jam doesnt owe you shit!

    get over it

Like when Riot Act came out. Tons of my friends were like "Pearl Jam? How can that be your favorite band? Their first 3 albums were good, but that's it! And their new album is TERRIBLE!!!" And it's hard to defend anything with lack of recent evidence to point to.

Well that is an artistic disagreement, not a disagreement on marketing strategy. Whether or not PJ's music sucks or not has nothing to do with the marketing really. The worst marketed record that no one hears could be the best. And of course conversely the best marketed record could really, really suck. So if your friend says Riot Act sucked, I doubt he would give a crap if you countered with "Oh yea? Well they never sold their songs to Pepsi commericals!" He'd still say "Goody for them, it's still a crap record!"

I often hear "They hate ticketmaster, right? They don't tour using them?"
