Thanks for all the updates. Ya, they should have scheduled much smaller venues. It has to be a little deflating being on stage and playing to an half empty arena.
Once the floor stood it looked reasonably full as they covered the empty spaces by spreading out. It was probably 80% occupied in reality on the floor.
lower level was probably 65%. It was spaced out enough in the lower level that most stayed sitting all night. If it was full, one person standing causes the next row to stand because they can’t see, and the next etc. that didn’t happen. That was the only negative as that directly affects energy and engagement of a crowd

Billy being Billy I thought he would have an issue with it. He didn’t let on though, so good for him. Everyone there had a good time
if you can go, it’s worth it. Loudest concert I’ve ever been to by a large margin, that wasn’t great. Painfully loud. If it was in Europe I’m sure there is some health and safety regulations they would be violating. It’s what I would imagine what sticking your head in a jet engine would be like
Do you think it was loud due to lack of audience absorbing some of that sound, or did they just crank it up?

It was cranked up to 11. No doubt that was by design. It was clear from the opener (Poppy) who screams a lot
That puts a PJ show at about 7
they had some artificial electronic bass generation going on off stage as it wasn’t the drum kit or bass on stage. It was more the highs though being that loud but there was clearly a wall of sound type of setup
I’ve always absolutely hated billy corgan. I can’t help but to laugh a little looking at the ticket sales.
I really like a lot of their stuff, but yeah, just a tremendous douchebag. Even their hometown show at the United Center on a Saturday night looks to be maybe half sold.....crazy.
61 black vinyl box sets remaining 531 autographed ones.
Moving slowly, but moving
I think they need to hurry up and sell out (im not volunteering) as I highly doubt we get another archive announcement while these are still hanging around. It’s roughly the same people buying all of it and the new album probably can’t compete with an archive so that will guarantee it sits even longer
yah... I think the reason that pumpkins went from a band that could sell out full size nhl/nba arena's to a theatre/small arena level band was two fold. The first was Billy's phased where he didn't want to play any of the music off the first albums, which kind of made people not interest in going to shows. The 2nd was he's a bit of a douche.. lol.
I still love the music, and since they play early stuff again I'm eager to go.
I find it hard to plunk down that money for the new album before I found out if I like it or not. I still feel ripped off by the new tool album, when the put it out in an uber expensive boxset, only to rerelease it as a 3lp version a few months later.
Maybe I'll buy the standard version of the album when it comes out.

Im more pissed the Uber deluxe “limited” tool album is available for $60 on Amazon. I feel comparatively ripped off not that I think it wasn’t one hell of a box set and one hell of an album
I figured a regular version was coming, just not that soon. That doesn’t bother me either way as it’s different
tool kind of screwed us there. At least SP says 1,333 boxes at $225. You at least know the situation even if you haven’t heard it. It’s not going to the Amazon bargain bin for sure
im not dropping $200 or whatever on anything if it’s not going to be collectible in some way. As irrational as that may be, it helps justify it. The tool box set isn’t.
SP box it’s doubtful I’ll get it. If it’s available after a bunch more tracks are released maybe, but it’ll be gone by then so I’m good with that
the MTS Centre holds 13,000 people. they booked it for the Oceania tour. They got 4,000 people. The Manitoba Moose get more than that. these promoters don't seem to learn.

We aren’t getting another archive until the record is out. That’s my feeling.
I'm fine with that, need a break from spending the kind of money they ask for these Archive releases. Decided to pre order the regular non deluxe Atum on black vinyl as the price dropped briefly. Not sure how the pressing available in the UK can possibly be only 1500. Something not right there.

I got a special deal for the Vancouver show $20 tickets all fees in, during a summer sale. Yet the arena has barely sold. I doubt this tour continues on. Even if it does, I may eat the $20 and go the Foals that night who put on an amazing live show.
The only time I saw SP in 2000 it was by far the most disappointing show I have ever been to of at least 500 concerts. I knew alot of their music going into that show and literally walked out after thinking that they played all new songs I never heard of. SP was at their peak then, but lost most of their fans then because they refused to play hits.
If they did a siamese dream or melon collie album tour you would see much better sales, but I doubt Corgan wants to admit his band is a nostalgic band, when that's exactly what it is at this point.

Yah that's why we stopped going. I saw SP once at a Lolla in Vancouver (93?), and then the show in '97. I felt like that show in '97 was peak. They were selling out full sized arena's to ravenous fans and playing all their best songs.
After that, they went into the phase (As you mentioned) of not playing any songs anyone knew, refusing to play their earlier catalog. Then the area of replacing most of the members. It was only went they brought back James Iha a few years ago and I saw the setlists included older material that I got interested in seeing them again.
Hopefully the show isn't too bad (if it happens). It had been 25 years since I'd seen them, and I've been on an SP kick lately, so getting one more chance to see them might not be so bad.
To me this is as good of a set list as you can expect, considering a new album is going to fill a few song slots regardless. It’s a good balance so I don’t think there will be massive complaints about song choices.
FWIW I missed them 25 years ago unfortunately, and made up for it this time. I wasn’t disappointed. Had I made that show in the 90’s who knows

Nothing from my favorite album of theirs Gish.
😂 Billy can only go so far in pleasing everyone as I’m sure it pains him
I notice that too, but at least he’s recognising he has to play popular stuff

True, and I am sure it is still a good show, especially with JA on the bill.

Went to the show in Tampa Friday night. My thoughts: Very good size crowd. I am a big fan of Jane's, but I could tell the crowd was more there for the Pumpkins. Dave not playing was noticeable, they sounded great, but his style adds that little extra that makes the band different. Seemed like Jane's have a strict time limit to get off, I thought they were co-headliners so maybe they'd get an encore, but no.
Pumpkins were good. They were a little stiff at first, but the crowd popped during the hits. Billy Corgan is still an awkward lead guy, Iha did most of the crowd work. Towards the end, the two of them started to loosen up and try joking around, which actually made it seem like they were enjoying playing. They hit their groove on 1979, probably the best song of the night. They should adjust their setlist to not have so many unfamiliar songs in a row. A lot of people would stream out to restrooms after the 2nd non hit in a row. There were plenty of songs in the catalog they could have played to satisfy the crowd.
I do recommend going if you were on the fence, since it seems like you can get tickets pretty easily and cheap.

Between his changes in songwriting (and even post 98, I'm not crazy about it) and certainly him taking lead on production, no thanks.
