  • The New York Giants will host the first game of the National Football League season on a Wednesday night to avoid conflicts with U.S. President Barrack Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, the league said in a news release.

The NFL schedule usually starts on Thursday, when the president would be speaking.
The opponent for the Giants in the Sept. 5 game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, wasn’t disclosed. The Giants won the Super Bowl championship this month.

That's good because I have a night class on a Thursday night next semester. September 5th seems like week earlier to start the season.

  • You have to think its either GB or NO to open our title defense
  • Will be a tough schedule in 2012. probably one of the toughest again but that makes it more exciting i think.
Other than the divisional games NYG will host-- Packers, Saints, Bucs, Steelers, Browns
travel to-- Falcons, Panthers, Bengals, Ravens, 49ers

Agreed opener will probably be Packers though vs Saints would be great too. Prefer that than vs a divisional opponent like usual.
    PJ - 36
    EV - 5

Should have won the San Fran, Philly, and Green Bay games. They got robbed on the Green Bay game.

Plaxico Burress may have his sights set on playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, but he won't rule out a reunion with the Giants. In fact, he called it a "great possibility" that he would return to play for Tom Coughlin, whom he called "a great coach."

The free agent listed the Giants among four teams he's considering in an interview Tuesday on The Sirius Blitz on SiriusXM NFL Radio. He spoke about playing for the Giants, Jets, Steelers and Eagles, the team that's been clearly at the top of his list the last week as he makes his media rounds.

Plaxico really needs to let it go already, there's no chance he'll ever be a giant again and he has no one to blame but himself.

The Giants were reportedly $9 million or so over the salary cap and needed to get down by the start of the league year this coming Tuesday, so it was likely players like Brandon Jacobs would have to take a pay cut or get cut.

One other option was to do a simple restructuring of a big contract. The team has done just that with Eli Manning.

Per NFL Players Association records, the Giants guaranteed $9 million of Manning's $10.75-million base salary for the 2012 season, which allows the team to spread the cap hit over the remaining four years of his contract. Manning's new base salary is $1.75 million.

Manning's 2012 cap number shrunk from $16.35 million to $9.6 million, saving the Giants $6.75 million on this year's cap.

The move doesn't hurt Manning at all. In fact, it only helps him. He gets that $9 million right now, as opposed to waiting for the season. Plus, it was previously non-guaranteed money, so there was a chance he wouldn't have gotten it. Because, you know, he might've gotten cut before the season began.....................

    ........moving on........

While Manning's cap number grew smaller this season, the numbers for the next three years grew by $2.25 million each. A look at his cap numbers:

    2013: $20.85m (was $18.6m)
    2014: $20.4m (was $18.15)
    2015: $19.75 (was $17.5)

The numbers will apparently be easier to stomach starting in 2014 because that's when TV revenue hits and is supposed to raise the cap by a ton.

Figured it was coming. Loved him at times, hated him at times. Had a couple big runs in the big games.
