The mistake was giving him that contract when you still had 1 more year of control of him. They would have either given him a new contract this season or let him become a free agent.

He wouldn't have played last year without a contract, right?

I don't know for sure. But I think he would have. I think most people thought he would have also. But since he's missed 20 games out of 80 due to injury. He probably didn't want to wait too long for his free agency year.

the “pundits” are universally panning this move.
As they rightfully should. Just plain stupid moves.

I am fine with the Collins move outside of the fact they should have traded him

If we had Zeitler last year. We probably wouldn't need to make these trades

And if he became a free agent Giants would have received a compensatory pick after the 3rd round in 2020 instead of #17, #95 and Peppers...would you have preferred that as a return?

They could have traded him or used that money to sign someone. I'm just going by the cap hit we're taking. One of the complaints is that we don't have money to spend. In the long run those picks and Peppers should be good. From what I hear the Browns have 3 3rd round picks and we got the later one. But what we got for Odell who has missed 25% of his games to injury and 1 suspension. It was pretty good

Oh the cap hit will hurt, but only for a year, if he walked for nothing or forced a trade deadline deal last October cause he didn't have an extension where the return would have been far less than the current return, it would have hurt more and for longer.

Plus the G-men are kicking the tires on Chris Hogan, that will make up for ODB's production.

This is a pretty big note to make, as well.
Missing 1/4 of your games is not insignificant.

I am coming around on this, but still don't like the haul.  They tried to work it out, but they just don't want him around Saquon and hopefully  Haskins.  If they don't draft a QB, I am out.

At the end of the day, if they end up with Haskins and Saquon to build around, I am good with that.

You’re paying two slot receivers a combined $20 million this year. Congrats.
