It's really quite sad that someone would do that, I mean if you don't like the way you look just don't post a picture.

If it's for spite well thats another story.

I think a lot of people do this to varying degrees in real life as well. They may act one way at work and another way with family/friends, etc. To a certain degree it's appropriate...it's still aspects of the same person, just adjusted to the situation. I think the internet is so anonymous in some ways that people don't feel as constrained by their insecurites and maybe show parts of themselves they would never express in real life. I know there's a few people who have been really outgoing on here...but say their shy in real life...and I think that's understandable...it's just when they seem like a TOTALLY different person that it's weird...and unfortunately I've seen that too.

i love when you get rational hahaa. ill rant and rave and you will go "well maybe..."

    you so smart.

i do agree with you. there are many things that can happen on the internet that would normally not happen in real life.. simple things. but the case at hand is much more than that. this isnt a simple case of someone being shy in real life. this is someone stealing pictures. stealing someones identity.. and for what we aren't sure of yet.

all i can say is yes i understand this is the internet and you must take things with a grain of salt.. but these acts can really hurt you. there are things that have happened to me and others alike that show you just how people can really be... the cold, manipulating, psycho side.. and that is so shocking and sad. so i hope this person is just harmless (no im not accusing harmless) and this isnt something much deeper.

I'm just curious now. Whose pictures were put up by someone pretending to be someone else?

This thread amuses me. I mean who seriously posts a picture of somebody else and claims to be that person?! ::cuckoo::::cuckoo::
I'm glad I never put a picture of myself up here.
Interestingly though, some crazy bitch did put a picture of me up here a couple months ago, but she didn't claim to be me, she was just trying to be mean.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

i would also like to add that i think the fact that we have a thread to post pictures is cool... the fact that when tour time comes we at least can recognize a face... im a very visual person so i like putting a face with a name... i also love to see the adventures some people go on.. or parts of the world i have never seen..

sadly this will probably end those threads forever.. we've already had countless threads close.. and then what? this person who has been stealing photos will just fade away and everything will be cool again? or they will just stop posting on this board and find a new one to terrorize. does anything beneficial come of this? especially if we never know who it is...

My ex-girlfriend's current boyfriend is on my msn list but he's pretending to be some girl. He's completely paranoid. He ("she") asks if I saw my ex almost every day and if I saw her would I have sex with her... and things like that. I saw her a while ago and she was actually afraid that her boyfriend would find out we talked. She had to erase my phone number and e-mail address as well! Psycho!

    I'm going to quote _Crazy_Mary_ here; "::cuckoo::::cuckoo::"

Maybe it's a diabolical scheme orchestrated by kat or sea in order to creature a reason to lock and delete those threads!

Since they've been "found out", if true, I'm betting they won't be coming back to post.

wow, creepy thread. Its not me. I don't have a sister. I'm meeting up with mookie at bonnaroo so he'd confirm that. Unless mookie is really my sister and I've been posting "his" picture.

you've seen me when I don't have a rational thought in my head :p you've balanced me!

I agree too - this is one of those extreme situations where it's not just a different part of someone, or showing parts of themself they're too scared to show in real life, or holding back on things that they don't want public -they are completely pretending to be someone else...and that's when people can get hurt. The identity theft freaks me out! I just didn't think of that when I've posted pics. I've heard of it happening on myspace...but yeah that's really freaky. I don't wanna be surfing the web one day and find my face attached to someone else's naked body...unless it's scarlett johannson's naked body, in which case it would be ok :)

I think it happens A LOT. I know someone who met a person online and the whole time that person was posting pics of their friend as though it was them and pretending to have certain hobbies, interests, etc. It was only a week before they were supposed to meet in person that they finally told the truth. Another person actually told me they pose as different people on various websites to see what kind of different responses they get. I think it's VERY common.

You are correct about things like this hurting people. There is that sad case of a mother leading a neighbor girl to believe she was a boy interested in her. When the girl found out it was a hoax, she committed suicide. The mother is now being brought up on assault charges. As funny as this thread has been, there is a dark side to these problems.

I heard about that case. I'm glad the mother has been charged. It's infuriating to think an adult would mess with a kid that way.
