“He has all the elements we’re looking for,” general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. “First of all, the makeup is extraordinary. He’s the ultimate team player. He knows how to play baseball. He’s a winning baseball player. He’s had the opportunity to be in big games in the playoffs and he just fits real well.”

    :lol::lol:

What about the element of, you know, being good at baseball?

so with texas interested in trading for j upton and putting the squeeze on hamilton to make a decision...maybe the phils could swoop in with a 4 year deal? or load up on a 3 year deal since that's all the m's seem to be offering?

He also mentioned that he's a "professional hitter" which is my favorite moronic old-timey baseball scout quote.

Sill, this guy is a clubhouse leader. Big deal if he's a poor hitting designated hitter playing in the National League. Why would anyone have a problem with that?

    (that's sarcasm by the way)

Believe me, I don't want him. His best moments were in the pages of Moneyball.

guess i'm in the minority in liking the pick up. He was great a few years ago, I'm hoping last year was just an off year :?

i'm with you, I prefer to be optimistic, especially since spring training hasn't even started yet.

    I hate pessimism.

    attitude is everything!!!!

Phillies officials have privately maintained that they’d be prepared to offer Josh Hamilton a three-year deal.

    80 million maybe?

soriano trade rumor doesn't seem plausible to me...

Dude has to be going back to Texas at this point. No other option for them, I would think.

According to who? Anthony Gargano? Greinke...gone, Napoli....gone, Upton....not an option. They need Hamilton and he wants to be there. Unless another team gets crazy, I just can't see the Rangers not signing him.

ha...i didn't even see the gargano thing on hardball until now. just going off what mlbtr posted about them willing to consider a 3 year deal. why not?

going back to texas is probably the most likely scenario since he's letting them have a chance to match any offer he gets.

but to say philly isn't an option, given ruben's penchant for making splashes and their specific need for a corner outfielder and money to spend, is not too wise.

I'm not saying it's not an option all, I just think that after last nights trade where he ends up is pretty much sealed. He likes Texas, Texas needs him. They have money. It's only a matter of time. He's clearly been waiting on them. There are a lot of options, shit the Yankees are trying to trade Granderson, if they did that the Yankees are an option but I got my money on Texas

so josh hamilton got the same deal that howard got. haven't seen the final details, so I'm not sure if there's an option for a 6th year like howard got  . I'm guessing that with the sixth year/buyout that howards deal is still worth more money. unbelievable...really is the worst contract of all time.

thank god the yanks ponied up for ichiro...that would have been yet another mistake.

    amaro is the worst

Howard contract aside (who would've thought you'd bring that up?) I'm happy to let the Angels give Hamilton 5 years. He'll probably be working on giving up tobacco down the stretch run again next year.

excepting of course that ryan howard is not a serial drug abuser who needs a babysitter so he doesn't get into trouble. and now put hamilton in anaheim. why don't you just move him in with Charlie Sheen and Lindsey Lohan and get it over with if you are the angels? good role model for mike trout too. :fp:

and there are lots of absurd contract these days. the lengths are insane. David Wright 7 years for a guy who they were writing off 2 years ago in new york. shane victorino getting $13 million a year for 3 years. :nono:
