I have heard Gelb is a really good dude. Xavier from the Yanks thread knew him when he was on the Yanks beat and says he was a really good guy.

I hear it's getting expensive. George King said he's being treated like "whiskey on the eve of prohibition". $30 mil is a lot for at least 1 year in the minors. Sounds like the Yanks may be backing off.

Yeah, I hate beat writers who are pricks for no real reason. Pete Abe who covered the Yanks and now writes for the Boston Globe is a great reporter, very accessible, good writer but a huge prick.
