Ran into an old friend of mine yesterday and she handed me this and said, "Do you want this DVD".
    Network DVD

I had somehow missed this one after all this time, so I said, "Sure, thanks!"
So my wife and I watched it this evening.  Holy moly!  This really puts some perspective on how so much of where society is at today.  A very strange, fascinating, sometimes hilarious, sometimes disturbing film.   We both agreed we need to watch it again- not right away- it's pretty intense- but there's a lot there to absorb in this one.
    A+ !
"Pretty cookies, heart squares all around, yeah!"
    -Eddie Vedder, "Smile"

"Try to not spook the horse."
    -Neil Young

Starcrash (1978) Starring a young David Hasselhoff. Did watch this as part of MST3K reboot. They did make an Eddie vedder joke in it.

    fun!

(not that fun of a movie... though? I felt the "bond-esque" action sequence to be very bloodless and lifeless. Maybe it is because of the dream theme. But from back then I felt like all the action sequences was without any edge or excitement. But liked other clever stuff like Page and Gordon-Lewitt walking the stairs etc)

Here are the films I will watch and rewatch on 35mm this spring at the Gothenburg branch of the Swedish Film Institute "Cinematheque" showings:

    The Terminator
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (have to travel to Stockholm for this one)
    Les Triplets des Belleville (EXCITEEEED)
    My Own Private Idaho
    Antichrist (Lars Von Trier)
    Europa (Lars Von Trier)
    Pan's labyrinth
    Alphaville (Godard)
    Bo Widerberg's Barnvagnen (Swedish film)
A Swedish love story (Roy Andersson) (digital copy though, not 35mm but the movie is so goooooood)

I agree with you about the action in the third act. But I do think it goes with the dream theme. After rewatches, the stakes are raised a little bit, when you realize they could all be dropped into a horrible dream limbo forever. I love that Gordon-Levitt hallway fight, particularly since so much of it was captured on a practical set.

My son loved the theater experience. They play old fashioned concessions advertisements from the 80s and 90s. Also, after the real trailers, they show a “period accurate” trailer. We got Affleck’s Boston heist movie, The Town. Love that one.

I asked my son right before the movie started if he wanted any snacks. He said yes, so we went back out. Cashier had a cool, 90s Candyman hoodie on. So, my son orders popcorn and milk duds. Then, he pours the milk duds into the popcorn. I ask him, are you just doing the movie snacks from Whiplash (his other favorite movie)?

    “Umm, maybe?” 🤪
  • That’s a nice list of movies coming up on 35 mm!
Have fun at T2 when it comes!

Pan’s Labyrinth is going to be showing at ours as well. Wish I could see it, but we are going to try and hit The Shining and Carpenter’s The Thing next month. February has True Romance coming and next month is also a 4K showing of Seven Samurai plus a theme night around The Matrix. If I lived close to it, I’d hit the place up all the time, but it’s a little bit of a drive for me.

We did not like it as much as the first one. Really like that first one. I liked the implications of where this story might could go in the ending and I thought the lead actress was great. However, the more the movie went on the more the anxiety and chaos became too much. I also thought there was way too much of the is this real or in my mind tricks. The movie was a bit too scary for my son. Not something he will watch again.
