The Lovely Bones, very well done, reminded me a lot of What Dreams May Come or Big Fish.  Kind of sad it took the critical drubbing that it did when it came out.
    Did you read the book?

No, but the movie's got me interested to check it out, lol.
Ah. Well I think the movie the got panned because it really pales in comparison to the book. It's a great read!

Cool, I'll definitely be checking it out then, thanks for the heads-up, lol!

I fell asleep a few times during the fight scenes and at the end. It looked cool, but there was no there there.

    Everest (the 2015 film).

After reading Krakauer's Into Thin Air and half way into Ed Viesturs' No Shortcut to the Top (both excellent books!) and seeing some other films and documentaries about Everest, this one was a let down for me.  Part of the problem is that I'd become fairly familiar with several of the main characters through reading books and watching documentaries and interviews, so the actors in this film, especially  Josh Brolin as Beck Weathers (yes, Weathers is from Texas but no need for Brolin to do the phony accent- it ain't there), just didn't match up well at all. That plus the numerous factual errors.

But like my wife said, if I hadn't read the books and seen the other films, I might have liked it better.

It's a shame Krakauer sold off the rights to the story years ago and let it get into the wrong hands.  The right film for this story has not yet been made.

Isle of Dogs.  Not Wes Anderson's best but still pretty darn good (like slightly below Fantastic Mr. Fox)

I really liked it! Different, lol, but very interesting to me, and metaphorical.

Kinda predictable but enjoyable.  Not sure how it compares to the book though.

just like the book, Ready Player One was a lot of fun. Especially if you enjoyed pop culture over the last few decades.

Ready Player One - I LOVED this movie.
Yes, it was predictable, but growing up in the 80's, it really reminded me of the style of adventure movies from that era. Heaps of Pop culture references and thoroughly enjoyable
