  • It's gone because a 24/7 station of AC/DC was more important.

Chin up! :) That AC/DC channel is a limited engagement. I'm not sure how long though.

This whole merger thing seriously sucks.

I'd take XM or Sirius by themselves over this crap!
  • XM is not even close to Sirius. I have had Sirius for 3 years now and listened to XM in rental cars, not a comparison. Listen to Sirius channels 18 and 21, great for people who like PJ

Holy shit, they really ruined things. Somehow all the Sirius stations took over the XM ones. Gone are Lucy, Squizz, Top Tracks, Flight, etc. They're been replaced by the Sirius counterparts Lithium, Octane, Classic Vinyl, The Pulse. It's only been a day but already I've noticed more DJs talking (and talking over song intros to boot), changes in the tone of the stations (Korn on Liquid Metal??) and less uncensored channels. They totally got rid of The Rhyme - classic hip hop which was such a fun channel.

Way to go Mel Karmazin, after ruining FM you finally fulfilled your dream of ruining satellite. I guess as long as Howard Stern is happy, you're happy. Who cares about the 8 million people who chose XM over Sirius probably in part because they don't like Howard.
wow, spoiled much? if there ever was a luxury item. its satellite radio.

OK, I don't know if it was this thread, but I am a long-time Sirius listener and I have noticed the last couple days that stations I listen to like First Wave and Lithium are playing crappier music and music that did not used to be played on the stations. This morning, I heard Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus on the Lithium channel (supposed to be grunge and 90's alternative). Depeche Mode USED TO be played on First Wave. Now, I feel like the First Wave station is playing poppier 80's songs, and Lithium is playing less Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, etc.

Am I going crazy here? Why did they change the programming for Lithium? Are they using XM's programming from Lucy or whatever? God damn it.

But if you didn't have a merger you wouldn't have either because they would both go bankrupt- so everyone just needs to be happy with what they have; it is still better than regular radio.

Plus, nobody is forcing you to buy the product. If you hate it now, then don't pay for it and get an ipod

everyone here will cream their shorts if sirius ever puts on a all pearl jam station

    that said

anyone think it's odd that the led zep channel is under 'pop' and it still has 'the bridge' icon, with it's 'softer side of rock' description? needs to be changed.
I love to turn you on

You aren't going crazy. I'm noticing crap like Creed. Fucking Creed. Jesus.

Also, I heard the Goo Goo Dolls, Iris. Now, I'm a Goo fan, but this does not qualify for 90's alternative. I was kinda in shock.

Sugar Ray was never on Lithium before. This is bullshit. They are using XM's crappy programming.

Lithium, since I first got Sirius, has from time to time played a shitty song. I don't think them playing the Goo Goo Dolls or Sugar Ray is a new change since the merger.

Exactly. Technically the Goo Goo Dolls, Creed and Sugar Ray are considered 90 Alt Rock, not very good 90's Alt Rock.

That's ridiculous. Lucy (replaced by Lithium) and Ethel which were on XM before the merger never played that.
I was listening to Lithium for about an hour yesterday and I got Pearl Jam, and AIC (sweet!) and between I got the Goo Goo Dolls, and Creed (not cool at all!).

sirius seems pretty similar though some of the channels have different names. i noticed the pulse is now 90s on 9 and the big 80's is now 80's on 8.

left of center is sirius xm u or something like that. i guess its the same station right?

I'm telling you it is different and somehow more poppy now. I never once heard Sugar Ray on Lithium before, although maybe that was just luck. They used to play poppy 90's music on channel 9, and Lithium was reserved for grunge and good 90's music.

sunscreem???? wtf is this shit? this is not grunge....and following it up with drain you doesn't make it so
  • The truth is, this merger could have gone pretty smoothly without anywhere near the amount of dissatisfaction if they would not have seen fit to COMPLETELY homogenize the lineups. The whole point of two satellite radio services was that people got a choice. Just because you do a merger doesn't mean you automatically take that away.

They should have given the XM people the good stuff from Sirius, like Margaritaville, but where there were channels that really weren't very similar, like X Country and Outlaw, they should have maintained what they had, maybe kept 10 or so channels unique to each service.

The fact that seems to get lost here is that XM had many more listeners to its music channels. Sirius not only had fewer subscribers, but a lot of its listening went to Howard Stern.

If it were not true that XM's listeners got the shaft here, I don't think you'd see this level of displeasure. Sirius listeners aren't unhappy - why should they be, as they're still getting what they signed up for, plus a few bonuses that moved over from XM. People say, oh, this is a merger so that's what happens. Wrong. Employees lose out in a merger, but customers normally don't. We're the revenue base - the reason they're in business. You don't screw up the product that more than half of your customers prefer.

I am a Sirius listener and had Sirius for a couple years before Howard even came. I picked Sirius basically because I talked to a few people, including the guy at Circuit City who sold me the radio, who said that Sirius had the better rock lineup. I am sure you would disagree, but I found XM to be more poppy and censored when I listened in rental cars.

I wouldn't say I am "unhappy" but I am not liking the change to more poppy programming on a couple of the stations as a result of this merger. Sirius used to have more of an edgy rock lineup than it does now.

Since I actually do live in the middle of a corn field and all the local radio stations play pop country, satellite radio is a necessity for me. The only bad part was that since I drive a Chevy I was forced to subscribe to XM. Over the last several months I was considering canceling due to the lack of crappy programming (and a severe lack of pearl jam).

That said, I’m ecstatic with the good Sirius channels that are now available to me. I now have better music stations plus the NFL. Now I’m just waiting for the Playboy channel to start working . . .

I don't know about Octane vs Squizz, but there's no comparison between Liquid Metal and Hard Attack. Liquid Metal is 1000x better the Hard Attack. I'm mostly upset that Octane isn't xL (uncensored), they got rid of the classic rap station on both platforms, and the Sirius DJs talk way more then XM ones ever did.

Yeah, Backspin didn't make it on to the combined lineup.

I'm so pissed. I loved Backspin. How that channel got cut is beyond me. If something is good, leave it alone!! I'm going to miss my daily dose of Kurtis Blow and Lady B.
