not for very long. or for that matter someone that had terrible taste in music. i could deal with a religious or vegan person longer than someone that likes terrible music.
  • This is a bit like saying 'Could you love someone who wears a lot of blue if your favourite colour is red', i.e. a bit silly. Sorry.

I agree with this. If music is a big part of your life then you have definite opinions about it. You may appreciate lots of different sounds, but if you don't like it much you couldn't live with it for very long. :)
well said. I dated a guy for a few months who really liked his dance/trance/shite music... and my friend and her boyfriend were the same. It was mind numbing when the 4 of us were together :o . It didn't OVERLY bother me cos we were still in the 'everything is great' phase but, once that's over, I could certainly see how it could lead to issues.

  • Sure why not? :) Music's music and although I might not like what he produces, I would still appreciate the talent he has. I think relationships can be very boring when you like everything the same... it leaves nothing to discuss and no room for change.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

To be honest I'm surprised this question is even being asked.. oh well. :p

I'm not... most kinda music I can stomach but dance/trance actually feels like torture to me :o I could put up with it for a short period of time... but I can't even go to clubs anymore. It makes me feel like my braincells are being slowly sucked out of my head :o

    why are you surprised?

music is a pretty big deal to me, and I would assume to most people on this message board. there have been some interesting answers going both ways.

it's more of a question of maybe having respect for the type of music they play.

    absolutely.
if it is a BIG part of their lives, and a big part of yours...but your ideas/tastes are soooo divergent, i think it could well be a very big deal. i am sure for many it would not be....but i know for myself it would be. music plays too large a role in my life, daily and in many other special activities....that it would be too much of a burden if our tastes were THAT different. most especially if he were a musician and you would be exposed to it ALL the time. just as i said in my first post. sure, perhaps dating would be fine at first, but as you got more serious/committed, living together/marriage...i would think a VERY big problem down the road. i do NOT think couples need to be 'perfectly matched'...exact same interests.....etc. however, for something truly important to you and a huge part of your life, a commonality there would be imperative imho.

No freaking way. I even have a harder time being around people who's voices are nasal, or unpleasing to my ear.

No. I have to respect the person I'm with and I couldn't if I found the music repulsive.

That would depend. If it were bubblegum, stupid pop music then no. But if it was like a rocking garage band that wasn't good yet and was getting good, or some sort of actual band that I just didn't like, Yeah I could do it.

Plus chicks in bands are really a turn on for me.

I agree, that's how I'm looking at also. It's just one part of a person. I can see if the person was a serial killer or compulsive liar..but shitty taste in music...meh...that's nothing. Imo you need to be pretty superficial to use that as an excuse not to date someone.

Depends if her music was BAD or if I just didn't like it. If it was bad, I'd tell her and she'd have to be able to deal with it :) It wouldn't be a problem for me, that's just silly. It's not that important. If it was a problem for her, I guess not. I wouldn't pretend.

John liked Yoko's music. That's what led to Two Virgins and all that other "unfinished music."

this is a good point, actually. if the music was SO bad or SUCH a different type of music than you like, it might be ok for some reason (it's probably like a joke to both of you). but if it's like a more legit form of music but you don't quite see it that way...

On the other hand, I know this Flamenco guitarist guy that stares at me whenever he sees me and it really creeps me out. I dislike him to the point that I will never give his music a chance. I can't stand being in the same room with him, so I can never like his music. God, he's weird.
