I think I've gone beyond my Sagittarian base, also. I was just talking to Kabong about this last night. I have a close friend named Oscar who is a Taurus and we have always enjoyed the same things in life but our personalities never seemed to click to where we really could tolerate each others quirks. I spent some time with him Saturday and we just clicked like we never have before...we kept echoing each others sentiments. So I went and read about it and found that if Sags are more in touch with their compassionate side then they are much better around Taureans. :)

I'm a Libra, I think I possess a lot of the traits associated with the sign. But when I read my horoscope it rarely sounds like me at all.

Ok, I'm Pisces. And I don't want to read all these posts about my sign upper.
Anyway. I'm not a believer, but one is a true, if U ask me. I have bad experiences with Gemini. I can't understand them, and they really hurt me. They are really different people to me, or maybe... I had bad luck in my life

Thanks for putting me onto the cusp thing...I've only recently gotten into horoscopes and have glossed over cusps thus far. I'm seeing a lot of relevent horoscope patterns around me. I'm born on April 22, and therefore am on the Aries/Taurus cusp. I've been hanging out with this guy who is an Aries, and have been looking at it as he being Aries, and myself as Taurus, and really it takes on a different slant when I take into consideration my own Arien touch.

    Peace.

Yay! I'm a Taurus and a fellow April 22 as well! But I'm a wicked Taurus.

That is very interesting! A certain Pisces that posts here has had a very similar experience regarding a relationship with a Gemini. It appears these two signs don't generally work well together.

i'm a "believer". i have a book about zodiac signs at home and it describes me pretty well. i sometimes wonder if i should copy those pages and hand them to people who don't understand me.

the only thing that i don't find correct are the other signs that i should get along with very well. i should get along very well with a specific sign, - which i won't tell, because i don't want to make anybody "angry" over here - and i'm actually not. they have a certain tendency that really annoys me. and i actually find it in every person of that sign.

other than that, i think your sign can tell a lot of you. of course it's not always right, because there are many other things that need to be considered when making a specific horoscope for a person. but you can usually find the main characteristics of a person's sign in them.

I can't say I'm a believer, but I have run into a couple of psychics (not in a session) and have noticed some interesting coincidences over the years.

I was born Aries, and I'm pretty sure my rising sign is Libra. As I understand, the cusp extends a few days each way, so I arrived on the Pisces-Aries cusp. I was a week late, though (due date was March 17th; I didn't come out until a week later - they made me :p).

Ta love. :) Snooze helped but I could do without this artic weather!! It's 8c here today!!! Brrrrrrrr!

    Ok, here we go.

    08/07/08

Aquarius ~ There are some delightful influences taking shape for you today and partly due to the way you've handled some recent hiccups or controversies in your life. You'll feel privileged on this front when some good news rolls in. You're also ready to delegate work - it will make a lot of other people happy believe it or not.

Virgo ~ Don't count too heavily on your freedom today, simply because there'll be too much happening on home-base to give you the right of way concerning what you'd really like to do. Service is the key to your current happiness – embrace it with open arms

hmmm....neither seems to hold the key so far today, we shall see how the day pans out. :D

Yesterday's for Virgo was classic! :D Said I should nap and I'd be lethargic! AND I was! :D

Haha... I think what we're gonna learn from this experiment is that the easiest way for horoscopes to be scarily accurate is to just mention being tired or lazy. :D

:D Well it's pretty unusual for me to succumb to the lethargy. I'm always going down fighting. :D I guess that's why I found it funny. That I was lethargic and I did actually have my Nana Nap. :D

In the newspaper this morning, my Libra horoscope said "Yawn... is it Monday already? Don't feel bad about feeling like you need to sleep - those dreams are worth having!" This came after a weekend where I got maybe 7 hours sleep. :p So I napped for a LONG time tonight. :D

The Pisces one didn't even mention sleeping. Pfffft. WRONG. :D

I know that for most of you it is just fun...
I know that we scientists can come across as miserable, skeptical, cynical, killjoyable and a whole bunch of other les and als...
I know that this is not the moving train...
I know that everybody has a right to their own beliefs...
I know that you can never prove a negative...
I know that I am really just putting off work...

    But here goes anyway.

Astrologers, depending upon their type, claim to be able to do one of a number of things. General astrologer focus on predicting the effects of stellar allignment on our lives. Catarchic astrologers use stellar, lunar and planetary positions to predict ideal times for us to do things whilst Genethialogic astrologers focus on stellar, lunar and planetary position at the time of our birth and predicting its effects on our personality.

It is easy to understand why astrology gained popularity a little over two millenia ago, given how little we understood about stars. Babylonians divided the sky into 12 different sections and noticed the anual cycle of their position in the sky (not being aware of course that this was caused by the earth rotating in space).

So what are the problems with astrology?

    1) The tilt of the earth has shifted approximately 20 degrees, meaning the houses of the Zodiac that astrology was based upon, no longer exist.

    2) The influence of objects is based upon anthropomorphised features. For example we give some planets features based upon how humans view them. Mars is given the characteristics of action and violence, because of the human association between war and the colour red.

    3) The influence of objects in astrology cannot be from a known force in the universe, as the proportional influence of these objects is incorrect. We know the relative influence of astronomical objects through the fundamental forces of the universe, (Gravity, electromagnetic, strong nuclear and weak nuclear), and these forces vary greatly with distance and mass of the object. In astrology the influence of the planets is meant to be comparable. So Astrological effects are not from a known force. Therefore...

    4) Astrologers must be detecting a force that scientists have not yet detected. Sure, there may be a force that scientists are unaware of, but are you willing to believe that a group of people have discovered and comprehended this force, and they are willing to share their knowledge for $4.99 per minute on the phone, or $30.00 per session in person?

    5) In terms of Genethialogy, when are we born. Is it when the baby exits the vagina? If so, why do the forces of astrology, which have travelled sometimes thousands of light years, not begin influence as soon as conception occurs?

    6) It does not work. No specific hororscope has even been proven to be more accurate than educated guessing, and there have been many studies demonstrating that when given a typical hororscope the majority of people believe it applies to them.

    7) People born at the same time do not share similar characteristics any more than people who are born at different times do.

    8) Star signs are meant to be imcompatible. A large US study looked at thousands of coupes and found no increase in divorce rate amongst couples whose star signs were incompatible.

    9) And finally, whilst most of astrology caters for a 'casual' user, where the astrology has neither a positive or negative effect on society, never forget that some powerful people make decisions that are influenced by astrology. A very famous US first lady lived her life by her hororscope. If she even had a small influence on her husbands decisions, I find that a disconcerting idea.

Anyway, believe what you want. I don't mean to belittle people, as I have good friends who are astrologers... honest! If you can justify this particular belief system, good for you. I can't.

I now await the usual onslaught of posts about the limitations of science.
