Really. If I'm not mistaken, the back seat was an option

Whoever bought mine originally must have chosen the backseat, then. Although, it was pretty small.

I drove that thing around for 6 or 7 years and the whole time I was thinking that I'd rather have ANY other car on the road than that.

the Vega was my first car. I can't remember the year. Probably early-mid 70's. what a piece of shit that thing was, it totally hogged and burned oil like crazy.

when we were going to buy a new car, my dad and I had to push it into the dealership to trade it in. They gave me something like $200 for it. Why even bother?

Almost purchased a Maverick once.....Vegas were bad, but they weren't as bad as either a Gremlin or a AMC Pacer.

    1984 Cannery yellow firebird.
The whole frame was rusted out completely.
I used to hide an ounce of weed where the radio was ripped out with slashes in the dashboard. One time I got pulled over with the weed in there. LOL
And it had no brakes.........I mean no brakes.
I used to park by either coasting into a parking lot and sliding into the curb or running into something.
At home I would knock over the mail box, get out and put it back up. LOL
I ran into the back of many many cars on the road. Thank god the bumper was hollow rubber. When it hit, it just pushed in. I would just pull it back out.
To stop at my friends house I would coast around the block a few times until I could put my foot out and help slow it down in front of his house. A few times he had to jump, hahahahahahaha
I kept a couple hundred pounds of free weights in the trunk to weight it down.
Man I was a dumb kid.

A highschool buddy had a Gremlin. I remember the green dash lights and driving around, very stoned, all bobbing our heads in rhythym to the Allman Brothers' Eat a Peach.

My mom had the "who's who" of lame cars - the Valiant (before I bought it), a Plymouth Cricket, a Pinto and a GEO Metro. She was OK with all of them :p.

Changing your oil is scheduled maintenance............I don't know how one would go 100,000 miles without changing their oil and not do serious damage to the engine......

and as far as american cars being shit.........I had a 1988 chevy s10 balzer with over 250,000 miles on it nothing major went wrong with it that wasn't just from normal wear and tear..........then i had a 1993 chevy cavalier that had nearly 200,000 miles on it.......both great vehicles.......both continued to run until I took them to the junk yard.......

i use synthetic every 10,000 (do my own) so yea i guess you could say every 9-10 months if you dont change your own oil you would need to pay for service.
and there is no scheduled mt until 100,000 miles in my owners manual

I got it while I had my permit (in '99) and made an Alive Guy decal for the back window. That car will ALWAYS be a part of me. Along with the molding strip that was permanentely peeled up because of a monkey at Six Flags.

When I was living in Florida back in 1990 I had a 1981 pontiac sunbird (i think that's what it was, we called it "the happy bus"), it was school bus yellow and quite hideous. The fabric on interior door panels/ceiling became a crusty like putty from the hot Florida sun. By the time i wrecked it it in '92 it had initials, poems and drawings carved into the entire interior, and the body was dented beyond belief.

    1980 Ford Pinto...

The damn thing caught fire as I was driving it...Here I am, chugging along to my fast food job, I smell plastic burning, next thing I know a 6 inch flame is shooting out the passenger side air vent...

As I'm standing there watching it flames engulf the damn thing, some schmuck walks up to me and says "Do ya have a fire extinguisher....?"

1974 Ford Mustang. Keep in mind that in the early 70's Mustangs were NOT cool cars - quite the opposite. It a funny green. No AC and black vinyl seats! You could get 3rd degree burns if you sat on the seats after it was left out in the sun! Only had AM radio, but yes I loved that car. It was my first, what can I say?

1970 Chevy Suburban, a former kindergarden school bus...

School bus yellow, with a black stripe to cover the words... Only had a drivers seat as we took out the tiny benches the kids sat on and just put padding and red shag carpet down.

Even had the handle to swing open the passenger side door to let people in...

General Motors Holden is the Aussie car company now exporting to the US. I even think you should be getting our Monaros! :D They're called Pontiac GTOs over there I think. You don't know how lucky you are mate! ;)

The Sunbird had a cassette deck thankfully, I think it was the main reason I wanted to buy it! That and the rear visor! :D

I believe you about the tape deck working off the cigarette lighter. One of my first cars, a Datsun I think, didn't even have a tape deck so I used to take my boom box everywhere in it! Cost me a fortune in batteries!
