Hahaha I didn't know what you meant at first because I was thinking of my screen name.
Huh??
'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'
He meant I'd have a severed hand, but I was thinking of my screen name which is something completely different. So I didn't know what acoustic guy was talking about because my sn would have absolutely no relevance.

Ah OK, I'm confused about how you're using 'screenname' then.. sorry

That part is actually cool to watch. I buy mine frozen because I don't want to deal with caring for them when they are alive. I don't get satisfaction out of a living thing dying (unlike acoustic guy) but I do realize some things die so others can live and think the snake's eating/ digestion process is unbelievable.
I've seen it enough times ... yeah the complete jaw dislocation is rad and all, but it's still not something I'd like to be involved in. In the wild, it happens naturally ... in my home, I'm basically becoming nature, and, uhhhh, I'm not really one with it.
It's hard enough for me to feed my dog his kibble, knowing what's in there. There is a vegetarian food for elder dogs or dogs with damaged/weak kidneys who require a protein-light diet, but his teeth are worse than his kidneys, so he's on the Dental Formula (referring to MediCal products).

Not meaning to make assumptions but is this about the animals in captivity debate?

I got my first snake in October of last year and plan on getting more in the future (possible even order one by the end of the summer).
I have a Sunglow Motley corn snake and will stick with corns for a little while before moving on up to the big boys and getting a Ball Python.
Anyone else here have any snakes?
I have had a Ball Python for about 10 years now. I find it kind of funny that you consider it moving up to the big boys, because I still see him as a tiny little guy, even though he has maxed out at about 4 feet. I consider a Burmese Python (15-20 feet) the big leagues. Once you have held one of those (with help from a friend), my guy seems like an earthworm.
I agree that they are a great pet to interact with. My basis from that opinion however, comes from also owning a cat that hisses and growls at any guests in our house. The snake likes everyone due to body heat. To this day it hasn't bit anyone (or even tried).
If you were going to buy one of these, I would strongly recommend buying it in person. Their temperment can vary a lot. I had a friend who got a Ball Python that would snap at everything that came within a few feet of the cage. You could easily weed out the mean ones if you were to handle a few different ones before purchase.

Hahaha yea I know they don't get that big but they are a lot thicker than corns, which makes the big difference to me.
From there, I'll probably get a Columbian Red Tail.
That would make an awesome pair of boots!!! (I'm kidding......kind of)

I tried touching one and it bite my fingers. luckily it was only baby python though
Yea I have trouble getting mine out when its shedding. I do only to feed it and wouldn't want to bother it for any other reason. Once I get him out he eats just fine but thats after being a little snappy.

Thats the kind I might get next. But not to make boots lol.
I might a little while though because I've been spending so much money on concert tix. Not only do you have to think about the price of the snake (in the $150 range) but also a new tank, what will go inside the tank, and food (aka mice).
I hate hate hate hate snakes!
I fucking hate them with a passion. Last year I had a big black snake in my front yard. About 6ft long and as round as a beer can I blew its head right off with my shotgun.
Bitch at me all you want I dont give a shit, I hate them. I love animals but not those nasty fuckers.
My father in law said it was a harmless types of snake but I don't care.
Nasty creatures
why would you shoot an animal that was OUTSIDE your house, minding it's own business?
I'm not a huge fan of snakes when I come across them either, they startle me and they can be a little unsettling. But I'd never KILL one that was just hanging out outside. Biodiversity is a precious resource, and snakes are amazing. If it was in your yard and you didn't want it there, why didn't you capture it and move it? What could snakes possibly have done to you that you hate them so much??? (and you own a gun? isn't this a forum for pearl jam fans?)
(note I also don't know if I agree with snakes being pets. they're wild animals, it's like having a parrot to me, I don't think they should be removed from their natural habitat or bred in captivity to be sold as pets).

I completely agree.
So, for example, you would not kill a mouse you saw on the subway tracks. Dare I say, a CityMouse.

Yes I do own guns. Does that mean I am not allowed to like Pearl Jam? Ed does not want me at his concert b/c I have them? Yea okay.

that mamba is cool
Can you actually buy any of those? How much?
What about blue snakes?
You'd probably have to fork out serious amounts of money for the green python.. one of the most beautiful snakes in the world.
And you really wouldn't want a green mamba. Unless you also wanted a severed hand.
The others? I'm not sure, to be honest... but I think the leaf nosed rat snake is rare. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
The only snake I can think of which is bright blue is this one:

Banded Sea Snake
Wouldn't want one of those either
