I got my first snake in October of last year and plan on getting more in the future (possible even order one by the end of the summer).

I have a Sunglow Motley corn snake and will stick with corns for a little while before moving on up to the big boys and getting a Ball Python.

Anyone else here have any snakes?

EDIT: Heres some pics of mine- http://s39.photobucket.com/albums/e172/SVRDhand13/

Feel free to post some of your own and I'll put them up here at the top.

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no trouser snakes!!!!!!!! :)

I have one but I have friends that do. My buddy who host a little poker tournament for his small circle of friends has three pythons that are 10 feet long. One time, i asked him how many rats does the snake eat? He says a lot of giant rats or sometimes he'd just feed them a rabbit.

i could never see myself feeding bunnies to a giant snake, bunnies are too cute. :(

just don't dump the snakes in any local water bodies when you're tired of them.

Wow thanks for posting how you killed a harmless creature in a thread that is meant for people who own them. Sometimes people don't know when to keep quiet.

Can you interact with them much? Do they have any personality?

Sorry guy. I just really dislike them. I really do not like any reptiles but snakes for me are the worst.
    Have fun with yours.

If they are hungry and you go to feed it, won't it bite you? I have heard many stories about them doing this to their owners.

    Surprisingly, yes to both questions.

Taking them out is fun because you just let them "slither" all over the place and it looks/ feels really cool.

And I feel mine does have a personality. I've learned to know when he is happy or mad by the way he moves and he knows who I am. When I go to pass him off he wraps around my hand yet when someone is giving him back to me he quickly slides on my arm.

The best part of having a snake is picking one that looks beautiful to you. I feel like some of them are ugly while others look like a work of art.

This is where I got mine:http://www.cornsnake.net/. For those intersested you can see how many different styles there are. I'll post pics of mine soon.

Oh I think they're beautiful... they just don't look like you could pet them or interact with them in the same way as a dog or cat.

However, I've never really had any contact with them....which is why I asked :)

No they are not as interactive as cats or dogs but IMO they are good because they also are a lot easier to take care of. But when you have visitors they are much more entertaining to take out.

You can learn if you spend long enough learning and observing its behaviour under different conditions. He's not gonna bark or wag his tail, no, but all animals have ways in which we can read changes in mood.

When it makes jerky movements and gets itself in a striking position it is not happy. Or when it tries to ball itself up or stops moving its tongue it is scared.

Maybe not happy, but normal, is when it glides and has its body stretched out. A lot of tongue flickering shows it is curious, therefore not scared. Also, I can tell it is happy when he keeps moving around his tank when I put him back in it. Being angry or scared would cause him to hide.

I absolutely love snakes, but can't have one because I can't go through with the feeding process. I love rats and mice, too. I'll just live vicariously through the rest of you ... except when you feed them. :)

They can be, yes.. Corn snakes like the one being talked about are very sensitive to touch and can appear 'affectionate'.

I once held a baby python which was only just longer than my hand. It would lick my finger and wrap itself gently around my fingers.

Then again it might've just been trying to kill me. :p

That part is actually cool to watch. I buy mine frozen because I don't want to deal with caring for them when they are alive. I don't get satisfaction out of a living thing dying (unlike acoustic guy) but I do realize some things die so others can live and think the snake's eating/ digestion process is unbelievable.
