WTF - How could a 15 year olds problems be so bad that this was the only way out, and hard to believe that with all the resources devoted to kids these days she couldn't find the help needed.

perhaps she was manic depressive or something like that. a 15 year olds problem can sometimes go way beyond boys and bitchy girls and fashion you know. to say how could a 15 year old problems be so bad... is in my opinion slightly ignorant. there may have been a catalyst but there may well have been a deeper underlying condition.

This is very very sad! I think it's a shame that she felt it necessary to commit suicide! Maybe she figured there was no one to talk too....:(

How could you not know this happens quite often.
I'm surprised this even got coverage.

Hmm..... There is an illness called "depression" and when you have it, your thoughts become distorted, you feel worthless and hopeless, and ruminate obsessively about every bad thing that's ever happened to you....and every tiny seemingly innocuous comment makes you hate yourself even more - and you generally hide it from people. Sometimes people kill themselves rather than admitting their shame and disgust at themselves for not being able to "handle it", while others are able to get help...

When you have a chemical imbalance in your brain, "problems" are irrelevant. Comments like yours above only serve to perpetuate the stigma attached to depression...which ultimately drives some people to suicide because they are too ashamed and embarrased to ask for help...

when i was in high school, a few years ago i think i was in... grade 10? anyways we had three deaths that year: car crash, health problem, and suicide. it was weird, to the point that you'd get to school and you'd see people crying again and you'd realise 'it' happened again.

apparently the girl who hung herself had told the councilor she was going to do it, and the councilor never did anything... the parents had no idea their daughter had felt that way.

Not everyone has an idyllic childhood... I was bullied at school and for a long time I looked for a way out.... It was only when my mum caught me deliberately hurting myself so I could stay off school the anyone realised how bad the situation had got.

People sometimes use the phrase 'a cry for attention'...how sad that kids don't get the attention that they need already. Life can be hard no matter what your age... Being 15 is no picnic....

    Just my opinion.

Speaking as a teenager, I think most of us go through a period of feeling insecure of inferior. It's probably just teenage angst. The danger is with that is people sometimes dismiss cries for help as 'part of growing up' when in reality the person could actually be depressed.

It's sad that a 15 year old girl killed herself, and it's also quite ignorant to imply that teenagers have no reason to be depressed,

It's usually people who have never been depressed who think this way. They don't know what it's like and think it isn't that serious. There seem to be a few posters on this board who think this way. Guess not everyone is that lucky...

I tried to commit suicide a few times when I was 12, the ironic thing is I got over it and then truly did nearly die. I can't find it hard to believe teenagers feel suicidal. There's a lot of pressure in the education system and from parents and peer pressure etc. etc. that the future does seem impossibly far away at times. It's only in retrospect that people realise it wasn't all that much.

It was a question, not a statement, you douchebag. See I'm not American, we have plenty of help available or our citizens in all areas, our tax $$$$$$ don't go to just fund the invasion of other countries we actually care about our citizens. NOT JUST OIL.

That is a really sad situation. Its hard to imagine what someone else's circumstance is....but you can certainly assume that she felt alone and helpless.

Yes, there are alot of resources available to kids these days...however, more often than not the people who need help are also directed there, encouraged, or supported by loved ones. Thats the tricky thing about being depressed... you don't necesarily want or think you can feel better when you are in the throws of it.
