Wow! That was actually the thing I least expected... the Dodgers SWEEPING the Cubs!

I heard it on the radio on the way back from the USC game and it was such a relief...
    Stone Gossard...riffmeister extraordinaire!

I am a man, I am advanced.....I am the first man to borrow Stone's leather pants!

Derek Lowe really needs to pitch his ass off tonight. From what I hear, D Lowe's sinker is really working....he needs to keep it working. Game One is HUGE. If "we" can get Game One, I like "our" chances.

Torre will out-manage Pinella. Lou is over-rated. He won a WS 18 years ago. BFD! His 116 win team in Seattle flamed out in the first round. He didn't do shit in Tampa. I hope he has those Cubbies "ready" like they were ready for AZ last year :D.

What's up with Furcal? Is he ready to go? We need him.

Fukodome is pedestrian, at best. You can't let Soriano go off.
Only thing I missed here was overrating Fukodome as "pedestrian." He's not that good. Pinella was a mess. Now, maybe he understands "do or die"! :D

23 of 28 teams winning Game One of the NLDS have gone on to win the thing. I like those odds. Zambrano may be shaky tonight. Let's hope so.
Zambrano wasn't too shaky, but the defense sure was!

    Hell yeah!

How great was that? They played about as well as a team can play. Defense, pitching, timely hitting. Everything.

Let's keep it going against the Phillies!

One thing Dodger fans are not -- is fair weather. Haven't won a series in 20 years and we still top the attendance records. And yeah, I know... We show up late for games. Well, I don't, but others do. I hate that too. But the truth is the freeways are dismal. You can't just take a subway to the game like you can in Chicago.

You live in an area where it's beautiful all the time, and is populated with over 8 million people. You better be in the tops in attendance. If tickets were so demanding they should easily be double what they are here in. Especially since the cost of living in LA is higher as well.

It's not beautiful all the time in San Diego, Anaheim? By your logic those places should be tops in Attendance.

Dodger fans are not fairweather and are loyal.

Last time I checked Anaheim is.

Anaheim fans are the most fairweather fans in baseball. They were a laughingstock for years (decades?) until they won the World Series in 2002. Since then loads of "fans" have jumped on the bandwagon.

Check out their attendance figures before/after 2002:

    1997: 1,767,330
    1998: 2,519,280
    1999: 2,253,040
    2000: 2,066,982
    2001: 2,001,319
    2002: 2,305,565

    2003: 3,061,094
    2004: 3,375,677
    2005: 3,404,686
    2006: 3,406,790
    2007 :3,365,632

By contrast, the Dodgers hadn't won a playoff SERIES since 1988 (until this year), and have suffered through many terrible seasons, but their attendance has stayed high and consistent nonetheless:

    1997: 3,319,504
    1998: 3,089,222
    1999: 3,098,042
    2000: 2,880,242
    2001: 3,017,143
    2002: 3,131,077
    2003: 3,138,626
    2004: 3,488,283
    2005: 3,603,680
    2006: 3,758,421
    2007: 3,856,753

Drawing 3 million+ fans in 10 out of 11 years despite a consistently unsuccessful team? That alone proves that Dodgers fans are NOT fairweather.

And don't give me that "the weather is beautiful" business to explain why the Dodgers draw so many fans. Sit for an hour on any SoCal freeway and you'll know what an absolute sacrifice it is to even get to the stadium for a game.
