    As much as I love NYC, I would NOT enjoy the rat situation in the subway...the subway is scary enough as it is.

    And, ya'll Aussies pronounce stuff weird! ;) My parents just got back from a month-long trip and just couldn't get used to Cairns sounding like "Cons".

    One time I was walking up the stairs, somewhere in the Union Sq station, and a rat was walking up the stairs with all of us. It was interesting, to say the least.

    My friend Dana was taking a cab home one night with her husband and they were stopped at a light and looked over and saw a dumpster behind a restaraunt that literally looked like it was moving because there were so many rats in it.
    She laughed because she said thankfully she had never eaten there. But it was like a block or 2 away from their apt.
    She was on the UES.

    i've seen them on the street late at night, especially when store owners leave their garbage bags out on the sidewalk for pickup in the next morning, so it's probably not that uncommon.
