I was at the bar and it was quite through 5 and then the place erupted when Chase came through with that homer..we really need to go up 2-0 today..cant worry about taking 2 of 3 in LA out of desperation

    finally, chase, thank you! :)

f-that, we want it all, 4 down 7 to go to win the World Series - let's think BIG - head case on the mound today, let's hope he gets through the 1st inning then we should be fine. and why are we pitching to Manny? either way great win, good effort by Cole after shaky first. Awesome 7 through 9 inning pitching - no threats whatsoever. it scares me a bit that I am actually starting to trust Madson.

I was so excited about this game, and then when they came out and Lowe was shutting them down, I was like, noooooooooooooooooo, this can't be happening.

And the crowd at CBP was dead. Of course they came alive starting with inning that Hamels got the hit, but I was sitting there thinking - make some noise - get something going.

    oh my nerves. :D
Don't come closer or I'll have to go

Lowe looked like he started struggling in the 2nd and 3rd innings and I knew it was just a matter of time till the Phils started putting some hits together... didn't expect the homer from Chase, but once Burrell got to 3-0, I knew something was gonna happen.

And now that Chase is off the shnide.. anyone gonna start roasting Howard for his lack of production in the playoffs???

It was LOUD. Just when they took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and Rollins consistently feels a propensity to not work counts and swing upward on pitches for home runs, things start to get a little stagnant. And from my seat at the game I couldn't see the movement on Lowe's ball, but I heard from people watching on TV that it was nasty.

I think Howard is being too conscious about striking out lately. Kinda like McNabb throwing INT's. You could tell by his swing last night that he was not swinging all the way through, and just making sure to make contact. Even if that contact was a shitty over-the-top nubber down the line.

Plus Howard seems to be pulling EVERYTHING... he's so effective when he hits the ball the other way but he just wants to pull everything right now. I think someone should seriously mention to him about nubbing one down the 3rd baseline... with that shift on he'll have an easy single.

Every pitcher at this point knows you can pitch Howard down and away and if the pitch is close he'll swing... even though he can barely reach that part of the plate.

I love Jason Stark as a writer.. but to say the Phils won because the ballpark is too small is ridiculous. Lowe made two bad pitches and the Phils made him pay... and its not like the fences were moved further back when the Dodgers were hitting. Hamels pitched an effective game after being shaky early and Mad dog and Lidge shut the Dodgers down in the end.

I'm surprised at this too since he's a local guy. I swear, all these reporters are sucking so much D for a LA/Boston match-up it's disgusting. Again, fine with me then. We'll just have to roll through this series and prove everyone wrong.

And when are these visiting fans gonna learn? You don't come into our places. You just don't. Again, not like I condone it, but you don't bring a ham sandwich to a beef n' beer. Up top in my section in 418 these two Dodgers fans got a HUGE "ass-hole" chant after the game. Ah well. Sunrise, sunset.

i knew this kind of crap was going to start about the park. I guess Manny had to hit the ball to the only square inch of the park that it wouldn't be a home run. and why is a bigger park more fair than a smaller park? both teams play on the same field - jeez, give me a break.

Exactly. And explain to me why the Phils are in tops in the league in home runs AWAY as well? It's nonsense is what it is. Friggin Fenway is like 315 down the one line and I think like 305 down to Pesky Pole and has a whatever-they-call-that-corner in right center that is the longest part of the park. It's all bullshit. All I know is if we win a championship, they can bitch all they want.

Agreed. We hate him here in L.A., too.

He's an L.A. writer who has insulted the Dodgers for the last few years. Now that the Dodgers have made it to the second round, all of a sudden he jumps on the bandwagon. He's a clown whose opinions are worthless.

Enjoy your victory and stop whining about one sportwriter's article. There are thousands of others out there that say nothing about the ballpark. Read those if you can't take someone else's opinion.

The crowd was a little stale in the beginning. I kept the book like I always do at the games and other than those two line drive singles by Utley and Burrell, the Phillies had 11 groundball outs, 2 strike outs and Rollins pop out in the first before they finally started getting to Lowe in the bottom of the 5th.

It's hard to be at a fever pitch when the team only hit two balls out of the infield until Ruiz and Hamels hit singles.

Oh I know that. I actually felt the life being sucked out of me as well :D

What a beautiful day for a game today. I'll be leaving work early, actually within the hour. I'm lucky in that my boss knows what a phanatic I am about this team, so she had no problem with my cutting out for these games.

No he doesn't... just pitch his game and keep it close. The key to this series is if the offense can start manufacturing runs and not relying on the long ball.... the pitching just has to not let the game get away.

I mean it's agreed, and not that hard to understand, that Boston vs. LA would be the best matchup for the casual fan. But Philly vs. Boston wouldn't be that far off. The only thing that would suck would be Tampa vs. anybody - though I love that Tampa team.

And as much as there are LA/Boston storylines, there are just as mnay if not more Phils/Boston lines (Francona, JD Drew, Schill, Phils years of futility, off the top of my head)
