We went to the supermarket last night and I bought a Salty dog Blueberry beer and Jacks Pumpkin Ale.
    Actually they were both great.
My favorite is still Amstel Lite but they were pretty good.
    Anyone ever try these?

munich - too many breweries and beers to name.... my favorite so far is augustiner.. yum.
  • sometimes it makes me gag... and there are sometimes, like on a Friday after work, where it tastes a million times better than chocolate :D but yeh, I think in the summer it tastes best... I love wheat beers and belgian beers, like hoegaarden, blue moon, la chouffe, erdinger, paulaner, etc. But even a bud would do on a Friday after work :D

Jack's Pumpkin Ale is pretty good...The pumpkin is coming on strong this year in beer.
  • i have enjoyed a pumpkin brew as well ... but they are only around this time of year.

  • I have never liked the taste of beer, or any alcohol for that matter. My friends always have a host of suggestions for what kind of ales or lagers to try, but I have never had anything where I thought, "Holy Shit. This is delicious!" When I do drink, I usually go for a rum and Coke. If they made a beer that tasted exactly like orange soda, I would be all over it.

by 'lite', is that reduced alcohol content or calories? Not too fond of Amstel.

So the question is, do people actually enjoy the way beer TASTES? I mean, it's right up there with chocolate and ice cream in terms of things people mention not being able to wait to get their hands on (as in "It's been a long week, I can't wait to get home and crack open a cold beer"), but do we enjoy the taste of beer as much as we do chocolate and ice cream? Or is there something else about beer that makes us infatuated with it?

I have to ask this because, hey, I indulge in my fair share of beer drinking, and I could certainly hold my own in any beer-guzzling contest...but I have to say, when it comes to the TASTE of the stuff, I don't actually like it. It's actually one of the most bitter, untasty things I can imagine.

Grow up. Of course, we like the taste of beer.

Stop drinking Natty Light. Get something good.

I am not too into flavored beers. Is the pumpkin beer flavored by pumpkin, or is it flavored with the sorts of spices that one commonly associates with pumpkin pie (nutmeg, cloves, etc.)?

Amstel Lite is OK as a light beer, as is Heineken Lite. But really, they are nowhere near as good as normal beer.

The latter part. Trust me - it's good stuff.

I don't doubt it. I actually made a holiday brew with a buddy that had some nutmeg and cloves in the seeping bag. It came out OK, but we used too much of the spices. It ended up overwhelming the flavor. You gotta go easy on them.

That said, brewing your own beer kicks ass. It almost always comes out tasting way better than anything you can buy.

d'you get that on tap in the US?
I'd have to go with Estrella Galacia.
  • I love the scandinavian beers like Heineken or Carlsberg.
They taste clean and smooth but I hate Fosters and will only drink Guinness if I'm desperate for a stout...

I went through a heineken and Carlsberg phase, but now they taste skunky to me. I have been through a lot of beer phases in my life. There is a beer for every occasion.

Yay to the fact there are now SIX beer threads on the AET front page.

Yeah, thimbles are hard to chew and the taste just gets in the way of the beer ;)

    Twin Lakes Greenville Pale Ale!

My favorite. Ok, well, maybe I'm a little biased because I make the stuff, but still. :D
It just goes to keg now in Delaware but we're putting in a bottling machine at the end of the year. Actually it IS great beer!

My other favorites are from Victory Beer from not far away from me in PA, too.
Hop Devil Ale is my favorite, but they're all good.

High end 22 ounce bottles I like Ruination pale ale and Bear Republic Big Bear Black Stout. Ok, not the beer to have when you're having a few, though! Heavy duty stuff.
Also, pretty much everything from Flying Dog Brewery, too! Great labels and great to read a Hunter Thompson book while you're drinking a Gonzo Porter

We're going to put on the Mothers Of Invention tomorrow and have the last of the run of "We're Only In it for the Money" Frank Zappa beer. Pretty good stuff! We already had the "Lumpy Gravy" and it was a nice beer.

I'm not that much of a beer snob though, I still like a Corona with a lime on a hot night.

Oh man, you're on top of this beer stuff ;)..good info..
