portland sux monkey balls...........
hehehehehe..........
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Living in Northern California, I love:
skiing in the mountains 45 mins. away, the Yuba River and Bullards Bar in the summer, BBQing and having a campfire with friends and family, it's only a 7 hour drive to Disneyland, farmers markets, Tahoe, the ocean
I pretty much hate the state in which I live. Why?
1. Gov. Rod "Rodmunch" Blagojevich. Under his thoughtful guidance, prices for such rudimentary things as car registration have doubled. If you buy a car, you have to think about an extra $150-$200 for title, plates, and registration.
2. The weather. Winter around here comes on slow, but lasts WAY too long and insists on making a sort of "final stand." For example, we're 2/3 of the way thru February and winter is throwing everything it's got at us. Daily snowstorms and below zero temperatures are the norm for at least another couple of weeks. And in the summer (although I'd take it over the cold) we're usually treated to 90-100% relative humidity every day, so even if it's 75º outside, you can bet it's going to be miserable.
3. Illinois is one of the only states in the union where there is absolutely no way for me, a private citizen, to carry a gun for personal protection. As a matter of fact, Illinois has some of the worst gun laws in the country, right behind California.
4. Gas prices = Some of the highest in country.
5. The condition of the roads. I've been to almost 20 states, and the only state that has worse roads is Mississippi. Maybe I'd be happier about highway tolls being DOUBLED if the roads were actually kept in good repair.
The only redeeming factor about Illinois (well at least the northern half of it) is of course that I'm in close proximity to Chicago, a major destination of touring bands and home of some of the world's best and most diverse food.
Edit: Another major redeeming factor is the Smoke Free Illinois Act. I feel like it's one of the only positive things the government's ever done.
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government..."
the thing I like about MD is being near mountains and not too far from the beach. I like being able to drive to so many venues (baltimore, northern VA, etc.) I'm not saying that they are close to me since I live in the sticks, but at least they are not 100 miles away (however, some are 70 but that's better than nothing)
MD has very bad traffic and stupid drivers. I nearly had a collision with a guy on his cell phone driving at a high speed and we almost went into the same lane.
he cut in front of me and then looked, that is when i saw his cellphone.
the weather is ok but sometimes we have too many tornadoes.
