    new jersey

like: 45 min from new york, 45 min from shore, 20 minutes away from at least 5 malls, bruce springsteen, taylor ham, dont have to pump own gas, best diners in the country, pnc bank arts center

dont like: the bad reputation, the high population.
ohmygawd! The diners! The malls! The highways! Now, that's living! I grew up in Bergen County.

Love: Close to the mountains, a few major cities, and the beach; it's a liberal state; lot's of good colleges and universities in the area; never had to pump my own gas; the shopping :D, always so much to do

Hate: The humidity in the summer and the cold in the winter, the jersey turnpike , traffic in general

I love everything about my state. It's gorgeous. It's got the mountains on one side, and the beach on the other. It's also got a rich history.

  • new york state....where do i begin?

love: i'm centrally located (syracuse) in the state, so if i have to go to plattsburgh, or nyc it'll only take me a few hours, instead of several if i lived in, say, buffalo. love SU sports, and get to as many games as i possibly can (season ticket holder for football). a lot of people say there's not a lot to do around central new york, so they move...but they're clueless. there's plenty to do. in the summer, there are millions (and i'm not exagerating) of places to go boating, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, all that shit. we have some decent acts come through here for concerts. the state fair, although it's going downhill (in my eyes, at least) the past couple years. can't buy cigs or smoke outdoors there anymore. there's an imax screen at the MOST downtown, so we can always catch a decent flick, whether it's a movie or a documentary. canada is only a couple hours away. the summers are great. not overly hot, but mostly just about right. the colors of the leaves in the fall are amazing, especially if you go for a drive through the adirondacks during peak time. don't have to worry about hurricanes, earthquakes, or tornados (although, we've had little mini tornados hit and a small earthquake about 5 or 6 years ago).

hate: the fucking snow. i hate it with every fiber of who i am. i used to love it when i was a kid, but that was before i had to regularly shovel it, brush it off my car, and drive in it. the snowmobiling around here is fantastic and the groomed trails are endless, but that's only a perk if you have a snowmobile, which i don't and probably never will. i hate the fact that we have to take our cars to a garage to get inspected instead of a state run building made specifically for inspections. they won't tell you that you need something fixed to pass your car unless it's really needed. mechanics around here have a tendency to lie, just to get you to spend extra dollars. pisses me off. with each passing year, i hate the people that make up central new york a little more. snobbish, holier than thou, "i have all the answers" little pricks. i see a big lack of pride in community, and it's disheartening. it's not that bad where i'm at now, but i see it a lot in downtown syracuse and i fear that it will eventually migrate into the smaller towns outside of the city. i can't stand the students up at SU. arrogant cocksuckers is what they are. not every single one of them, but more than likely 99% of them are.

overall, it's not a bad place to be. i've seen far worse.

Love- Buckeyes, Browns, Cavs, Indians, Lebron, the lake

Hate- how the lake is wasted, pollution, lack of things to do, weak major cities, reputation for being all rednecks, all the rednecks

I could go on with both, overall not a bad place to be, but not great either. Definitely planning a move once I finish school

Love: the diversity of the outdoors, from flat to mountains, to plains, to desert, to beach. The food. I would die without proper Tex-Mex. The diversity of the people. We have a very large Spanish influence. San Antonio is awesome. The cities are diverse. Dallas is way different than Ft. Worth which is nothing like Houston which is different than San Antonio and nothing is like Austin. The friendly people. The warm winter we are having this year. I walked my dog in shorts and flip-flops many times in Jan. and Feb. The Dallas Cowboys. The cost of living is extremely low in comparison with the north and west coast. Housing is abundant and very affordable.

Hate: the summers, by far. By August I am ready to move. The big city violence. Dallas is at the top of the murder rate statistics every year. We have our share of ignorant hicks. The snobby, stuck-up rich people that infest Dallas. The ignorant way we run the state government with a powerless governor and a legislature that only meet once every couple of years. The property taxes. The fact that Texans pay higher electric rates and higher homeowner insurance rates than the other states. We are as Red State as you can possibly get.

I love so many things about my state, that I can't even name them all - it's just bottlenecking around my finger tips and I can't get it all out.

oh, LORD the beach...and the forests, and the desert, and the mountains and the cities and the crown jewel cities and *SWOON*

    things I hate??

ARE YOU DAFT?! there is NOTHING to hate about my state...well, maybe I don't much care for the non-natives who knock my state...or the attitudes of entitlement that are brought by these people...oh lordy no! just NO! hahaaa I am not fond of the douche-inator.

but HATE well, I mean seriously?? I even love the way gilroy smells...I love the way Norco smells in the summer - with the horse flies and all! um, the 5 FWY is a bit sucky...don't drive it and think for a second you are seeing MY state. by the way, the state is MINE. I am queen here. :D you can visit if you like, but you know - you can stay only if you love it all the way to your bones...stand and squish your feets into California...do you feel it?? in your heart? well, then you can stay - you are a native in your soul...:D

Love: Close to so many great places like NYC, Boston and Philly.
On the Sound and ocean is within driving distance.
    Mohegan Sun
    Change of Seasons

Hate: You can't buy wine and liquor in the grocery store, only beer and not on Sunday.

There are a lot of benefits for people that do not work. So if I work my ass off all my life(which I will), I probably couldn't retire because I would have to work to afford my health benefits. Whereas if I was collecting from the state my whole life, I could keep NOT working, and have full health benefits. F'n crazy is what it is and it makes me INSANE. ( I know this is probably everywhere in the U.S., I want to write a book about it).
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

NY: Love: NYC is within driving distance, as is Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto, and Philly. So many good shows and interesting places to go.
Dislike: upstate feels very cut off from civilization and it is COLD. Plus we get bad lake effect snow, but slightly downstate its worse, down on I81.

hate the red necks and the especially the pretentious, right-wing, holier than thou christian, yuppie red necks.
bombs, dropping down, please forgive our hometown
  • Michigan - Love: All the great sports teams there (yes, including the lions!). The abundance of nature around the area. There is always something to do (hunting, hiking, fishing, camping). I love all the seasons including winter...skiing there is a blast.

Hate: The economy. There are absolutely no jobs in the state of Michigan and the area (at least around my town) seems to be turning into a resort town for the Chicagoans

Connecticut - Love: The proximity to all the cities. The diversity of the area that i'm in. It's one big melting pot here. The towns in the south/west here. They all have something unique to offer.

Hate: The fucking traffic. I generally don't mind a little traffic but it is ridiculous here. Also, the gross impatience of the population. I think I've gotten more dirty looks, car horns and fingers directed my way in 5 months than i have in my entire life haha. Settle down people!!

Love, the fact that I met and married a wonderful lady from this province, spring, summer, fall, I'm less than a 3 hour drive from 2 major cities in which all major bands play, surrounded by lots of fresh water lakes (mind you getting more polluted all the time), an hour drive from detroit in which I can see all the major sports teams in action.

Hate, winter ( especially about now so looking forward to spring), the fact it is getting harder to find a dr., our high taxes, the city I currently live in (moving in the spring), all proffesional sports teams (leafs, raptors, senators and so on).

snow hasn't been that bad this year, thank god. nothing like last year, that is. we had so much snow within one week last feb. that the roof on our garage collapsed.

and I81 isn't the best roadway during the winter, but I481 is worse. i travel 481 every weekday and in the winter...sometimes it feels like i'm driving on an ungroomed snowmobile trail with bald tires all around.
