Just wanted to add that it's insane that you guys pretty much had dinner with hammill and gurgel. That is like a freakin dream, i am so envious of you 3.
Also, were you guys at HMV around 3 or 4 on friday? Henderson, Heurta, and if i remember correctly, florian were there doing pictures and signing. The line was way too long when we got there, so, peel pub it was, again lol. I swear that place is awsome, great food, great environment, good beer, and happy hour is from 3-7 with pitchers ranging between $6 for domestic beer and up to $12 for imports. We drank moosehead for $10/pitcher for 4 hours.

I just read the artical that civ posted, you were right, really good article and very good news!

At the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White comments on whether UFC will ever be back in Canada: "This is a hot bed for mixed martial arts now, obviously not only for the talent but just so many fans here... The energy here tonight was more powerful here than anywhere I've ever been. We did 21,390 people here - officially the biggest UFC event ever."

"I'd be back here every weekend, if we could."

hey leafs! sounds like you had a great time too! :)

that's so funny that you were at the Peel Pub. we were about to walk in there, but then decided on the Irish Pub next door instead (inspired by mookie's heritage, i suppose!) it was quite a suprise to see Matt and Jorge in there! We did see/hear about the Huerta signing at the HMV, which, of course, would have been awesome... but seriously, watching the fights on the big screen, and getting a personal play-by-play from Matt himself, and practically being able to offer him some of my french fries was a waaaayyy more special experience.... it really was cool.

glad you liked the blog as well! i though her somewhat 'girlie' outlook was cute, and i could relate to some of her descriptions.... that's how i feel watching with experts like mookie and releash sometimes!! :p hehehehe....

Well, I finally have the energy to return to the thread! I made it home safely back to Nashville, after some delay. This weekend was amazing and exhausting and I am so lucky to have shared it with Ceg and Mookie. I'm sorry we couldn't meet up with you leafs.

It has pretty much all been said at this point. I can't wait to do it again. Perhaps in Toronto or if Dana can make it happen, in Nashville. :);)

<blushes> you are too kind, ceg!

and the same could definitely be said for you!

ps. I wish I could have gone to Notre Dame with you all!
  • Hey Mook , did you upload the Hermann fight??

wow, the main event that was outstanding has disappeared completely with both shogun and chuck out now. irvin vs. rashad would definitely be interesting, but not main event material. i wonder how they'll handle that.

changes made to rumours. thanks, leafs. :)

ya the card still looks decent and they have moved Werdum/Vera up to headline, but i'm really hoping they can put together another fight on short notice. I agree completely that Irvin/Rashad is not even close to a main event fight. Silva/Okami would be nice, but i think i'm dreaming.
From what I have read Shogun/Liddel will be in September, so atleast we'll get that now.

I also found an interview with Kalib, he says that he had a broken foot after his first thrown kick. I think if he was able to run like he did, he surely could have taken the fight to the ground or tried something. I mean, I'd let somebody KO me for 10k lol

umm ya, I'd probably agree that get PBP from Matt and eating with them is a way more special time lol. I mean I skipped it to drink more, i'm becoming extremely envious of you guys lol
It's so insane that we were there at the same time. I love irish pubs (probably because of my heritage to lol), but a friend had told me to go to peel pub and although it was good, i think we made the wrong choice lol

"babe, i would love to come to nashville!" ;)
  • ok, some final thoughts after watching the PPV...then i will settle down on the posts. :)

first, unlike many of the "reviews" i've seen elsewhere, i thought kenny florian did a fantastic job on the commentary. very descriptive commentary from someone who knows what he's talking about. very little bias, and great calls on the action. good chemistry with goldberg too. a very pleasant surprise.

i'm also up in the air still on what was the fight of the night. i'd almost be inclined to give it to mac and mark...but jonathan and hironaka did put on quite a show and jonathan did well to come back from a couple fo hard punches to win in emphatic fashion. loved it when he told the crowd that he could hear them chanting and that's what gave him the will to finish the fight. i say give them all bonuses! mac and mark put on one hell of a show.

we couldn't hear most of what was said in the post fight interviews (the PPV gave a good idea of how loud it was in there, especially for the main event, but didn't capture just how deafening it was at some points. "eeeeeee" is still all i can hear...;) the boos drowning out matt serra's interview at the weigh-ins was also not captured well. you literally couldn't hear a word of what goldberg was asking hi or what serra was saying in reply. all you could see was matt holding up the "two times" symbols.

there was some great comedy that i missed...i didn't get nate quarry's "rocky" line..."if i can change and you can change, we all can change!"...something like that. hilarious! kudos to him for trying to make that a good fight. if only kalib had made it a fight it would have been an excellent match up. i'm not buying his post fight comments, except his displeasure with the medical bills situation. i can understand the frustration, but choose a better time to make your "statement". a lot of canadian fans were really looking forward to seeing him put on a good show. i'm still perplexed...even after the "explanations".

...and i couldn't stop laughing during the match when goldberg mentions that it looked like quarry was just in a sparring session with kalib, and kenny says "well, nate is being kind of a jerk if this is a sparring session!" hahaha :D

is it wrong that i may watch this show every day for the next month?!?!...and look at our pics every hour or so?...

many thanks to ceg and releash for all the photos! i only took two good ones...and those were of you two! :)

oh, and as far as i can tell....i was trying to pinpoint the blow that took lutter out of the fight...it was the head kick in the second. he wasn't the same afterward. some errors in judgement on that night from steve mazz. i know he apologized to jason macdonald and joe doerksen after the show, as did jason to doerksen and his camp. he also should have recognized that lutter was done. he took some damage that could have been avoided. it's a difficult job to be a ref, but they could all take some lessons from big john and yves lavigne i think.

maia's comment about brazil not having a hockey team and that now he has one was a classic "win over the fans" moment...if his beautiful triangle didn't do it, i hope his post fight words did.

    maia! :)
  • one more thing i forgot...

we were sitting there saying how great it would be to have someone use a PJ song as an entrance song (as some of the entrnce songs were a little different this time...stones, clash, etc.) so for those who didn't get to see the live show, just prior to the beginning of the PPV, they showed a fantastic highlight package on the big screens with baba o'riley playing as the tune! :) not the pj cover, but at least one we're all very familar with. it was awesome!
