What was your last big purchase?

Just bought a 60 inch 1080p plasma and hung it on my wall last weekend. I have never spent so much money and had absolutely no buyer's remorse...it looks insanely awesome.

Funny thing is that the first movie I watched on it was "Into the Wild" (downloaded a version of it) and thought it was quite ironic that I was watching a movie about getting rid of material things on a $4k plasma.

$1200 tomorrow for replacing the timing belt and rear brakes on my car. Ugh. For $1200 I want a new guitar or amp or something cool like a 2nd HDTV or something.

  • shit and I thought my TV was too over the top! (it's a 32" LCD!)

um I think my last big purchase was in sept...a trek all carbon frame road bike. I don't like to think about how much it cost...(though it was considerably less than $4000 :))

this is funny though, it's weird how people value things...when I told my dad how much my bike cost me, he freaked out that I spent so much on it, yet he thinks it's perfectly normal to spend that much or more on a TV.

I actually got a new car 2 weeks ago but I don't really consider it a big purchase because I actually downgraded. I had a fully loaded Trailblazer, and I decided it was wasteful for a 24 year old guy to drive something like that so I traded it in on a new Malibu. I ended up saving $85 a month on insurance and $100 on my payment. So I guess you could consider that.

But I just got my tax return and am thinking of buy a new 42inch LCD. I have a small 27 incher now, and have been in the stages of buying a new TV for about 4 years now, but every time I go to buy one I always talk myself out of it...but baseball season is coming up and I think this might be the year I take the big plunge

    plus Airfare non-stop flights

"They say that I'm flying on a non-stop flight. Well I don't like the sound of that! I demand that my flight makes a stop, preferably at the airport I was flying to. It's those sudden mountain range stops that seem to put a damper on my day." GC :D

For me it would be my VIP package to ROO along with my trip to Cali to see EV. Of course I still need to book that trip. All in due time.

  • We bought a house last year and bought a car shortly after that. I don't know what I would consider a big purchase anymore. I've lost all perspective since becoming a grown up with grown up expenses...lol.
  • A new baby....

Well, it wasn't a purchase per se, but he'll cost me more than anything else that I own in the long run :)

  • just why I'm in no hurry to own a home! sorry to hear that.

thanks GTD... it wasn't so bad... the roofing project was planned, it was only the chimney that was a surprise! it's a good thing i got a good price for the roof... the extra cost for the chimney just brought it up to match the other quotes i received....

    i guess it's all about balance... ;)

don't be scared to buy a house... this was the first unexpected item i've run into in 5 years...

ok... the one day last winter when my furnace broke down was a little unexpected. Had to sleep in a touque and mittens for one night, before the repair man could come...

oh, and when my fridge quit, and i had to buy a new one...

    damn, i guess it's worse than i thought! :p:D
