Anybody watch the Doc on this girl on HBO? You gotta check it out.
Fucked up! This girl seems totally innocent. They put her in jail for 20 years b/c they found 10 or 20 lbs of pot in her bag in the airport. Long story and I do not have time to explaine it but you gotta watch the doc on this girl. The Justice system in Bali is Fucked up. They wanted to give her the death penalty!
Please watch it.

I didn't see that..I will have to catch it. They don't mess around in Indonesia though...Did you ever see brokedown palace? I think that was based on a true story.

I'm not knocking you, but there was a thread already on this... http://forums.pearljam.com/showthread.php?t=293158

I just thought you might want to join in on their discussion as well.

So sad, so unfair what's happening to some people sometimes.

She “seems” innocent…if she innocent then yeah, someone should help her out. If she’s not then, I hate it for her. She shouldn’t have been there with all that weed in the first place.

Ya gotta watch the doc to really get a feel for whether she is or not. I really think she is though. Plus, even if she was not, there is NO evidence to prove its hers, they never fingerprinted the bag. Her bag was unlocked, and the baggage claim guys are known for doing this all the time there from what they say about it. And she tested negative for Pot.

well yeah...having all that pot isn't exactly good. The sentence may be harsh but she kind of brought it on herself.

I remember seeing this 20/20(or was it Dateline- one of them) a couple of years ago. I thought to myself either, she was wrongfully accused or a really great actor. I couldn't tell one or the other.

I haven't see the documentary so I don't know the up-to-date information about it.

I'm sick of the silly woman, she comes from a town about 20 minutes away from me, you walk into the town, in every shop there is save schapelle petition, shes guilty as all shit, her family are known for drugs over here on the coast, even if she isn't guilty, she is sticking up for a fellow family member, in which case she deserves to be locked up.

Don't get me started on the whole letting her out to go shopping to treat her depression bullshit either.

Piss off. I don't give a fuck about the laws, I'm talking about the reality that weed should not be criminalized anytime, anywhere, and I guarantee I know a hell of a lot more about the industry/black market than you do. Not to mention a better than 3rd grade propaganda driven understanding of the subject matter in the first place.

Mate, i hate to tell you, but the reality is it's illegal. All this it should be legal bullshit will go on forever, the matter of the fact is it is illegal now, it will be illegal tomorrow.
I've never said i know anything about the industry/black market, all i said was that she was in the wrong, she knew that, now she must suffer the consequences.

And what I am saying is that she wasn't in the wrong, the laws are. It is the apathy of people like you that leads to thousands of people being locked up for absolutely unjust reasoning.

Thats fucking stupid, the laws are wrong therefore i'm not doing anything wrong?? How does that work?? The laws are set in place to determine what is right and wrong.

Unjust reasoning, the reason they are being locked up isbecuse they are doing wrong. That is plenty Just reasoning, when you became emperor of the world you can change the laws to whatever the fuck you want, until then, it's not gonna happen, live with it and move on.

Yes, there have never been unjust laws in the whole history of mankind. They are all rationale and just. Maybe you should crack open a history book some day and actually read a little. The only reason unjust laws have ever been changed is because people fought back against them.

There is nothing wrong with marijuana. There is plenty wrong with the laws surrounding it. No, I won't be moving on. I fight the good fight regardless of the ignorance or odds I am up against. I just use guerrilla tactics is all.

Drink Driving irrationale?? i could go on with plenty of just laws, including drug smuggling and marijuana being legalised. It is legal in some cases, for good reason.

I'm not up for a battle of nothing, my battle consists of the laws are set for good reason, people who don't play by these rules have to pay the consequences. Go have some cones and chill the fuck out. i hate naive pricks.

okay... i agree with you that marijuana should not be illegal anywhere, but in foreign countries tis not our call to make. her sentence does suck massive, but schapelle knew the drug laws in indonesia. we all know. her sister is married to a balinese fellow and like many many australians who travel frequently to bali, she knows what happens to people who are caught with drugs in their bags. i am not being an apologist for the indonesian government on this issue however it is THEIR country therefore it is THEIR laws we all must abide by. its that simple. the law was broken, a penalty must be paid. and schappelle is paying it. no ones saying its fair, it just is what it is. fucked up... but still indonesian law. :)

    And I'll say it again.

Whether Schappelle is guilty or innocent, Indonesia and Indonesian law would have a lot more credibility with me if Abu Bakar Bashir hadn't only received a 2 year sentence for masterminding the Bali Bombings.

A girl gets 20 years for smuggling marijuana

A man who masterminds the deaths of 100s of innocent people and gets only 2 years?

    No credibility. None.

    Spot on!!!!

And to back up Samule's earlier point...her father was VERY well known as a big dealer/grower up there.

My 2 bob. Dont reckon she was carrying for herself, most likely her brother but def someone.

And Jeanie's point also highlighted something very disturbing: How the fvck does Bakir Bashir get 2 years and Corby 20?!???!?! One of the most corrupt regimes in the world

Personally think that Corby is a bargaining chip as far as the Indonesian government is concerned. I think they're hoping that the Australian government will negotiate for her to be transferred home at some point in return for a stay of execution for Amrozi or some other equally offensive suggestion. Not that I'm big on execution anyway but one has to wonder if its not some high level form of bartering and that at some point in the future the motivation behind it will become more apparent.

That's right. They have some serious problems with their judicial system. Whether she is guilty or not, 20 years is very harsh.

Personally I feel that her family are fucking odd bods, the brother, the sister, the father or Shapelle would have to have had something to do with it I.M.O.
