The **OFFICIAL** Ryan Howard is a dog thread

I'll say it now, and maybe it'll spurn him on to some amazing rest of the season but Ryan Howard has been a dog, this season for the Phils. 0-2 today coming off the bench and yes 2 strikeouts.... way to go Ryan, way to be a $10 million man.

Wait, which Ryan Howard are we talking about? Are we talking about the kid who started the office fire with a cheesy pita? :D

At least he's on pace to shatter the alltime strike out record.

He's on pace for 240 right now. ;)

I won't even go into his defensive "prowess".... its just not worth the agrivation. Especially since he touches the ball the most of any infielder besides the pitcher and catcher.

Honestly, if this were to continue I would not mind seeing the Phils resign Burrell with the idea of converting him to a first baseman in the offseason. He did start out as a 3rd baseman.

while he was dinged a little last year, he started off pretty bad, hitting .225 through his first 35 games in '07 ...

Anyway ... as long Pat Burrell keeps hitting, me (and my fantasy team) will be very thankful.

I truly think Ryan Howard has the "Pat Burrell Syndrome" of 4-5 years ago. I have some co-workers who have spotted Ryan out on the town at 4am on a Sunday morning when they Phils had a 1:35 game.

Pat got married in the off-season, and look at what he's doing now

i can't believe that nickname never took off. :D

not sure what the deal is with RH this season. last year he blamed it on making too many MVP appearances in the off-season... so we know THAT's not the problem this year... i think he's trying too hard.

I've heard the same thing about Howard enjoying the nightlife a bit. But it's a big change going from making 900,000 to 10 mil a year. Hopefully he has a Roy Hobbs like revelation soon and forgoes the nightlife. ;)

nope don't know the guy personally but for $10mil I'd expect more from a former Rookie of the Year/ MVP. And I figured he deserved the same kind of press that all other players who have signed big contracts and not performed up to them have enjoyed... especially in the city of brotherly love. But apparently Howard is a poster boy for the league and can't be criticized too harshly....

well I myself am a Phillies fan and I too see that he's in a slump and that he strikes out way too much. but I don't think we need a thread about it......yet.

I disagree with you on this - this is two years in a row where he has royally sucked in the beginning. It's why I am glad they didn't sign him long term yet - let's see how he plays before we decide to give him 7-10 years. It seems the pitchers have found his weaknesses and he hasn't been able to adjust yet. The fact that he barely tries defensively burns me up too - at least make an effort there. He has sucked from the beginning and doesn't seem to care or make any effort to get better on that part of the game. At least Utley has tried and worked on getting better defensively.

Remember Howard is a slugger not a hitter. He's never gonna bat for average. I wouldn't be to worried about his performance at the moment. Watch, he's gonna find his swing and belt 20hr's in one of these months(hopefully sooner than later). Although I wouldn't mind Milt asking Ryan to take a step towards the plate, that slider away is eating him up.

I hope he hits better than .150 though. He's going to have to hit .350 for the rest of the season to get his average up to around .265 (his career average is .284) by year's end.

He's killing my fantasy teams average....with no HR/RBI payoff!

Well 2 RBIs last night, maybe there is something to him not playing well in April. But let's see what happens over the next few weeks....

And if its as simple as him not playing well in April, I want to petition the league to officially rename April as Jackie Robinson month since they feel the need to celebrate him at any other random time during the season. :D

gotta love PB.. turned it on during the 8th when he just missed a homer to right (the wind knocked it down) and then turned back just as the count went 3-2 in the 10th... my g/f thought I only got that excited during hockey games :)

Gotta love how this team is playing right now without Jimmy and without Howard's bat.
