apparently the world could end on Wednesday

  • I live only about 150 miles from the LHC, so I guess people here would be among the first to get sucked on Wednesday... No seriously, nothing like this will happen, and by the way, they'll only start first tests on Wednesday. I hope the experiment will bring up some interesting results. From what I understand they're trying to find some proof about the existence of the smallest particles in the universe, and there might be some more explanations about its development and composition. Why not make investigations about that? It's better than clinging to "intelligent design".
  • Apparently they are hoping to be able to find a solution to global warming and a cure for cancer out of it, amongst many other things.

Regret those naive words you will, my Welsh friend!!! When we're safe in our bunkers painted white with ear protectors and hundreds of tins of baked beans, you'll be knocking on the door asking if there's room for one more!

    There will not be, Heathen.

    :p

aww, you'll make room for me :o if Dave wasn't so bloody tall there would be room! He'll have to hang his legs outta the window :p
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

I tried to read that article.
drivingrl: "Will I ever get to meet Gwen Stefani?"
kevinbeetle: "Yes. When her career washes up and her and Gavin move to Galveston, you will meet her at Hot Topic shopping for a Japanese cheerleader outfit.

Is it necessary for people to continue to try and play God????? There is really no need for their little experiment.

Play god? Exactly the opposite. It is called science. I'm looking forward to reading about their discoveries regarding matter and energy. There could be some interesting findings, or it could be a giant money pit.

Yes I said play God and and the little experiment isn't necessary. Yeah it might be interesting but then what? Why don't the scientist put their time to good use?

They are - they're pretty much recreating the big bang for Christ's sakes! If that isn't a good use, then I don't know what is. Plus, what God? I don't believe in magic.

They aren't just doing a little experiment. They will be using this for many, many experiments for many, many years that have all sorts of implications. I'm sure you would have been pissed at Galileo or Davinci for playing god and going against the church had you lived back then. But thankfully they went against the religionists and made many important discoveries. There are still discoveries to be made. Why would you be opposed to better understanding the world we live in?

Sorry I guess we have a difference of opinion. I agree that it will be interesting but I still think its pointless.

As I said before, they are hoping to be able to come up with a cure for cancer and a solution to global warming - are those not worthy causes?!
  • I'm trying not to get too excited by this because I know nothing will happen. It'll all be so boring and everything will be business as usual. Yawn.

Still, the scientists did say that one of the things they hoped to get out of it was the creation of time travel - that'll be cool I guess.

My son thinks he has figured out time travel... I have a recording of it sounds fairly possible ...still need the bugs worked out of though... I told him astral travel makes life easier than science....
