apparently the world could end on Wednesday

anyone else a tiny bit scared about this? i am.

On Wednesday the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will send out a full particle beam, in preparation for an experiment that will re-create conditions just after the Big Bang.

The LHC will smash two beams of particles head-on at super-fast speeds. Scientists from Cern - the European organisation for nuclear research - hope to see new particles in the debris of these collisions.

There have been concerns that the experiment could open black holes that would swell in size and swallow up the Earth, but physicists stress that the planet is not under threat.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

It'll be fine - from what I've read the chance of us getting destroyed is like getting hit by lightning....Then again, it does happen.

Is it necessary for people to continue to try and play God????? There is really no need for their little experiment.
  • well... that's a bit of a bugger...

I'll say my farewells on Tuesday, you know, just in case :o

this is my thoughts. what are they hoping to accomplish with this experiment?

wtf? it is this kind of thing that could fuck us all ! im not to worried about this , but really. its dumb shit that wont really have any positive's that could create a HUGE fuckin' negative for us all.

lol, i feel like i'm living in some bad sci-fi movie !!! ;)

  • this better not end the world. i will be really upset. i got lots to live for. besides, if shit was really going to hit the fan, some superhero would bust into the conductor reactor thingy and save the day. thats what happens when evil scientists try to pull this shit.

  • I hope the black hole doesn't swallow us up before the next Pearl Jam tour.

If they try this on Wednesday and it works how many more times is this multi billon dollar machine going to be used?? If there is even a slight chance that it may have an impact on future generations in a negative way why would they do this?

  • I live only about 150 miles from the LHC, so I guess people here would be among the first to get sucked on Wednesday... No seriously, nothing like this will happen, and by the way, they'll only start first tests on Wednesday. I hope the experiment will bring up some interesting results. From what I understand they're trying to find some proof about the existence of the smallest particles in the universe, and there might be some more explanations about its development and composition. Why not make investigations about that? It's better than clinging to "intelligent design".
  • Apparently they are hoping to be able to find a solution to global warming and a cure for cancer out of it, amongst many other things.
