I mean why you gotta call someone from NY a meathead :)

If this guy was from India, I would've have called him a meathead :)

I think it was on one of those True Life shows.

I just got married in december and my wife's 'rents dropped probably about 50k when all was said and done, plus my wife and I took dance lessons that cost a pretty penny more. That said, my FIL is an upper-level CPA at a big firm in Boston, and has had this money put aside for quite a long time. Honestly I never wanted more than a 2k wedding with all my friends, family, a BBQ, and a bunch of booze but they had a different vision of what it was supposed to be. I think the main point is to consider your means, and then decide what's most important. Yes it's a special day, but it's just a day, and the bride/groom don't get to spend much time with everyone.

The funny thing is that the rehearsal dinner which my parents dropped $1500 on was just as fun as the wedding itself. I've been to more and less expensive weddings, and the funny thing is that I liked most of the cheaper one's better because they were about the fact that everyone was getting together not this show of wealth. In other words just getting all the cool peeps in your life together is awesome...still weddings with open martini bars are fun as well.

I had a great time during my wedding, and that's the main point is that you are having a good time and happy. If you aren't then it's a waste of everyone's time and money no matter how much is spent. And yes I am tipsy right now off 3 coors lights.
  • When my 2 sons were born, I told my wife..."Good job, we just saved about 100 grand on weddings."

    She was not amused.
