our bill was $900....all we had were our closest friends and realtives with a tent in the backyard.
live and let live...unless it violates the pearligious doctrine.
  • When we got married my In-Laws insisted on paying for it

    We didn't go crazy

We actually paid for the Band,Flowers,Limo,Videographer and Photographer

We had the Wedding at an old manison outside of Philly

    $100,000 is crazy !

Just curious to the OP is the couple that is getting Married paying for it themselves ?

  • I have to say that if I ever get married (doubtful) my parents would insist on inviting half the world. that's how they roll. I'm sure my wedding would be hella-expensive, just due to pure numbers of guests! (of course if my parents did this I'd make them pay for it).

    Go to Vegas...

    Simple....simple....simple.

Yet kind of fun and romantic in its own way.

    Or Yosemite in the spring.

I would NEVER do that wedding ridiculousness....But to each their own!!!!

I doubt I'll ever get married anyway.

I know I'm a cynic...but break ups are hard enough without involving the government, the law, court rooms, lawyers etc. UGHHH.

Now that is really keeping it simple. Simpler than Vegas = no marriage at all. :D

But even that really costs quite a bit after you factor in travel.

We got married in Vegas - just our parents and us. Had a great time. Then a month later we had a big party. So much more relaxed and very little money spent. :)

  • My wedding last year cost just over $10,000 and I've been told it was one of the nicest weddings anyone has ever gone too. The hall was decorated like no one had ever seen before and made it pretty memorable to a lot of people.
  • yeah, $100,000 is ridiculous. We got a major break by planning ours on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It's just like a Friday in that everyone is off the next day. But by doing it on a Wednesday, we knocked $30 per head off the reception, which was held in a top notch spot.
  • no, the parents who obviously have the money for it on both sides are chipping in.

Just last summer I went to one of those $100k weddings. Such a waste. It was a very nice reception, but the ceremony is what it's about. It was the Father of the Bride's only child, but ridiculous nonetheless. To each their own, right?

X, considering that this is NYC, do the parents happen to be "connected". I know the wedding that I was at, the Father was quite "connected". Never before had I seen a guest at a wedding wear a whiter suit than the bride's. :D

outstanding!!! i like the yosemite part too...:)

i can't imagine spending untold amounts of money on a wedding......does it mean your love is stronger if you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars? no.....get a civil service, then have a bitchin' party and get on with your lives....:)
  • i doubt that. i guess they're just very successful at their line of work and when you combine the income of four people, it can be done. what do I know? I've never planned one of those, I was just shocked to hear that the cost could approach that figure.

i want to get married in vegas.

small ceremony with only my closest family and friends. and it's something they can enjoy... a vacation out to vegas!
  • Get_Right wrote:

lol, my ring probably cost around 3 times what our wedding cost.

But, at least I'll be wearing it for the rest of my life. The wedding is over and done with. :D

obviously i don't know the exact figure since i've never planned one, but i was hanging out with one of my friends who just got engaged and he was telling me about his planned wedding for next year and the ballpark figure of everything was in the neighborhood of 100,000.

I guess it's fine if you have the money for it, but I had no idea these things can cost that much. shows you my ignorance on the topic.

I think that's astronomical. I don't think that's the norm. It depends on where you get married, and in what season, and what time of day. It even depends on what day you get married. But I think that's an obscene amount of money. Even if they're wealthy and they have it. That's 1/4 of the value of a nice house on Long Island! Man oh man.

I want to have a backyard bbq wedding reception : )

i'm guessing night weddings in the summer with part of it outdoors are more pricey.

probably so but not $100,000 worth :) I want to have the reception at someone's house, in the backyard! With bbq!!

now the wedding I want to have in a church. If I have to convert, I will :)

the only wedding I know the cost of is my cousin's
they got married in a country club in Jersey and it was 35K, 10 yrs ago. It was a great wedding. But I still wouldn't pay that much even if I had the money. I'm going to get my dress at David's Bridal for $99
