rhinomagic wrote:You make good sense, but analysts said over and over again how much of a 'bargain' Alou was at $8M/yr. Look what two years of that deal netted the Mets: about 140 games and a decent second half of '07, when the rest of the team was crumbling. They did a similarly foolish thing by offering Pedro his fourth year when no other team in MLB would go more than three. We can also see how those third and fourth years have turned-out for him.
It's obvious Delgado can still mash, I just worry that Omar will sink multiple years and way too much money into the guy. And probably give Pedro another year or two.
.
I hear you, and I agree, those extra years for an old guy can be frightening. But, I think its a little different picking up Delgado, who is having a considerably better year than last year than giving Pedro the extra year, or picking up Alou who is massively injury prone. Also, unless we can get someone like Texiera, there aren't that many better options, and most of the options on the same level would be much more $.
And don't even get me started on giving Castillo four years...you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -
gotta like a 6 spot in the top of the first ... here's hoping ollie dosn;t blow up.I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.0

I'm going to Shea for the first time tomorrow, but don't wanna drive into the city. I've been looking into it an it seems easy to park in Jersey and take a train to Penn Station and then get on another train to Shea. The only problem I'm having is finding the best place to catch a train in NJ. I'm heading out on I-78, can somebody tell me the easiest place to get on a NJ Transit train to Penn Station?0

Phillies come to Shea for three this weekend. Mets have won 10 of 15 against them so far this year.
Fri: Myers v Pelfrey
Sat: Moyer v Martinez

Tonight's game is huge. I think that tonight has a chance to set the tone for the rest of the series. Although, playing against the Phillies this year so far, it seems that each game is also about redemption from the night before... So who knows...you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -

Tonight is very important. Pelfrey needs to continue his string of good starts and the offense would do well to build on the 123 first inning runs they've scored this year.
I enjoy September match-ups with so much on the line. But the Phillies are definitely facing an uphill climb. They've not shown well against the Mets in the season series. If they don't keep it close in the East, they won't have a chance in the Wild Card race with the Brewers and surging Astros.

I agree with you, I don't think the wild card is coming out of the east. The Phillies need to take 2 out of 3 this weekend. Looking forward to Sunday's matchup of Santana vs. Hamels. I do enjoy these big September series. Hoping the weather holds out for the series...

If it doesn't then we're getting a double-header on Sunday, which I cannot handle. I can't believe I'm saying this, but that's too much drinking. With tailgating and going to the Eagles game, watching other football games and a double header. I might as well take off Monday.0 -

Yeah, I have tickets for tomorrow's game, and can't make the trip up to NY on Sunday, so I'm hoping it holds out. I don't want to make the trip and have the game get re-scheduled."If you love someone, set them free... if someone loves you, don't fuck up" - EV0 -

Gotta keep our heads up.
Even if we win only one game this series we'll be two games up. That's why I think tonight's game is so important for the Mets. Sets the tone, but it also makes it if we lose the next two games we're not totally fucked and we can rebound against a weak Nationals team and weak Atlanta team for a whole week.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -
Oh man, Pelf is pitching nicely. Mets better get that run back.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0

Pelfrey is looking very good tonight. Mets need to take advantage of Murphy's double.
Why is Castillo starting tonight?
