Circumcision

  • Hahaha...such an original response. I'm surprised you didn't use wheaties or cheerios instead of cornflakes. This has to be synergy's default response when you people can't think of a clever retort. Ha.
Your ignorant comments weren't worth the effort of a clever response. Do you have something intelligent to add to this discussion?

    I didn't think so.

Ok first...who's the ignorant one? You just posed a question...gave me no opportunity to respond...and then decided to add the smug "I didn't think so" remark.

Second...Why the fuck do you care so much about the state of a man's dick? Can you explain that one?

  • Why do we have to resort to attacking each other? This is a huge message board with people of all kinds, and opinions and such. No one is going to be right or wrong on every topic. Its nice to be able to discuss and share opinions and hear a different insight. I disagree with tons of people on various subjects, but I learn a lot by listening to their side of the story. It may not change how I feel, but it opens my mind to what other people are thinking. If we all agreed on everything this world would be a very boring place. Its refreshing to hear other ways of thinking in my opinion. It doesn't warrant attacking anyone though.

Can we play nice, so the thread doesn't get killed, pretty please :)
  • Yeah. Why the fuck would a woman be so passionate about the state of a man's dick?
I believe in human rights. I believe each human born has a right to his or her entire body. Not just the parts the local culture deems acceptable.

I feel just as strongly about the female right to genital integrity. However, I don't live in a culture that routinely cuts away parts of female genitals. I do live in a culture that routinely amputates the foreskin of infant boys. Then pats itself on the back and declares it was for the best.

Pj10alive42, I'm sorry no one stood up for your rights. I'm sorry you were robbed of that when you were at your most helpless and vulnerable. What a slap in the face, what a breach of trust, to come into the world expecting love, and instead some stranger cut off part of your dick. You're angry, subconsciously furious about it, apparently. Please don't take it out on me.

That's a very common rationalization. Why would you miss what you've never had? And yet, we don't hear intact men complaining about their foreskins.

Here is an article on circumcision, the functions of the foreskin, etc.

    http://www.cirp.org/news/Mothering1997/

ETA: If you understand how the foreskin functions, it doesn't "crowd" the penis. It accommodates the erection. Circumcision is effectively penile reduction surgery. Without the foreskin, erections become tighter, forcing the penis to be smaller than intended. With a "tight" circ, the penis will actually pull skin up from the scrotum to help accommodate erection, causing a hairy shaft. It's not pretty. Nor is it as comfortable for the partner.

EXACTLY...you say a man who HAS been cut would never know what it was like to experience a cock that HASN'T been cut. Well then how the fuck would a man who HASN'T been cut ever know what is was like to experience a cock that HAS been cut?

    Your circular logic is astounding.

  • yeah it's pretty uncommon here not be. the argument is that it can have certain health and hygiene benefits. my whole group of girlfriends combined have only come across 2 in our...um...travels that weren't, and those were the only 2 guys not from the U.S. I have to say, I found one of the 2 and it kind of took me by surprise!

I'm not using circular logic. I'm stating facts and referencing well-researched material. Why does this upset you so much?

Yeah, my subconscious insecurities about having a cut dick fuels all of my fury and rage. Ha.

Aren't there more important atrocities in this world that a human rights activist should be devoting their passion and attention to?

I'm sorry, but I just clearly pointed out your faulty logic. If you can't see that then...well...I'll be kind and refrain from comment.

There are always more important issues than any given issue. That doesn't mean the given issue doesn't matter. I mean, I guess genocide is slightly worse than slavery, but that doesn't mean slavery wouldn't deserve our attention.

The bottom line is, if there is no need need to amputate the foreskin (and there is much medical support for this position worldwide) then why do we go out of our way to do it?

I don't happen to be a vegan, no. What's that got to do with anything? Can you not discuss this issue without attacking me? It would be pretty dumb for me to close my comments with "I'm willing to bet you eat raw meat." Try to stay on topic.

I've used no faulty logic. I merely pointed out that you couldn't know you were better off without a foreskin, having never experienced one.

Men who are circumcised late in life can make a comparison, but their experience of the circumcised penis will be different from that of men circumcised at birth. This is because of the gradual keritinization of the glans and loss of sensitivity over years without the foreskin's protection. The man newly circed late in life won't have this disadvantage.

Have you read Sam Harris "Letter to a Christian Nation"?

    Great read...

I know this totally goes against everything this thread is about, but I laughed really hard at that picture in the link of the baby on the magazine that read 'Where is my foreskin?" Not because im a dick [no pun intended] but I thought of that baby saying it in a really sophisticated voice and gathering with other babies in a chamber and having an intelligent debate.

    Sure, it's late. Good night.

I had a friend years ago that didn't have her infant son circumcised because she didn't want to cause him any pain. when she bathed him she always made sure to pull back the foreskin to get him good and clean. she also taught him how to do it himself once he was old enough to be taking baths/showers on his own. however, when this little boy was almost 5 years old, he got a horrible infection of his foreskin because he hadn't been pulling it back far enough when he washed himself. she had to take him to the Dr. where they tried serveral different antibotics to clear up the nasty infection and none of them would work. so this kid that wasn't even five yet had to be circumcised to remove his badly infected foreskin.
some how i bet that this kid wished to hell that he had been circumcised as an infant because at least that way he wouldn't have had to deal with remembering the pain.

personally I'm much more interested in the man attached to the penis than in what may or may not be attached to the end of his penis ;)

    Dog Loyal..

you seem very passionate and well education on the subject. Thanks for sharing the info. I'm one of those on the fence as to what I would do if I actually had a baby boy. I think I would have to do A LOT of research before making any kind of choice like that. I don't think I am going to have children, but its never a bad thing to be aware of issues going on in society.

    maybe a little toooo much...

why so 'hung' up on the idea?

In my opinion, circumcision is just genital mutilation. Female genital mutilation is also called female circumcision. It is performed to 'purify' the individual by reducing sexual pleasure - cutting off the foreskin will affect sensitivity. The foreskin is there for a reason.. to protect, just like for women the labia is there for a reason.. to protect.

As to infections, etc. one would hope men would have a proper hygiene/care routine that would prevent this!

And anyway, once the penis is erect it looks the same!

i got circumcised at age 15... i had to get it done FOR health reasons..

how can i put this politely.... my helmet is too big :o:o:o so i had the foreskin removed.

You're boasting again! Well, when there is a real medical reason, circumcision is not a problem. When it is done purely by routine or because it's the thing to do, then I believe that's wrong. Female genital mutilation is against the law, why not male genital mutilation?

If an adult male decides he wants to be circumcised, fine - let him do it, but I believe it's not right to subject a child to that. After all, one needs to be 16 to get genital piercings and 18 for tattoos, why can't there be a 'consent' age for something so much more drastic than that!
