Edit: In case you don't make it to chiqui's post below me, here's an online petition that's been started if you're a CA resident and of legal age to vote, you can sign if you're opposed to prop 8. Thank you chiqui. :)

Don't blame me... I voted 'No' because I really don't care if gays and lesbians suffer the same misery as married people.

well i remember in an earlier thread that someone stated that this prop couldn't overrule the California Supreme Courts decision. as most of us know.. gay marraige was voted down before, and then the CSC overruled it recently and allowed it. now with the majority voting it down again.. i think the CSC is going to take another look at it. hopefully they will overrule it again, and do something so it's not allowed to be voted on again!
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

It passed because many blacks and latinos, who are among California's most religious ethnic groups, were instructed by their church leaders on how to vote.

    source article

Also, I heard on the news today that mormon churches had purposely mailed out pro-prop 8 material to black voters, and that the material displayed a photo of Barack Obama. Apparently, those black voters were misled into believing that Obama supported prop 8, when in fact he has stated that he is against it.

    A bit of perspective:
It may be worth noting that a rapid change in the U.S. occurred over a little more than four decades concerning interracial marriage:

In 1948, about 90% of American Adults opposed interracial marriage when the Supreme Court of California legalized it, and California became the first state that allowed loving, committed interracial couples to marry.

In 1967, about 72% were opposed to interracial marriage. This was the year when the U.S. Supreme Court was legalized interracial marriage everywhere in the U.S.

In 1991, those adults opposed to interracial marriage became a minority for the first time.

The change averaged slightly less than 1 percentage point per year.

    Good point.

Also, isn't it usually the courts that end up granting rights when it comes to social issues?

Yah here there is a legal amount you are allowed to be in possession of... i think its like the equivalent of one joint but i'm not sure (anyone know? i forget actually...)

Good ol' stephen harper wanted to take that away though, he also motioned for bills to pass against same sex marriage I think... I've got no clue where BC stands on either of these issues... The marijuana issue is just less taboo out here, I think the popo have bigger drug issues to deal with - as they should... I think if there was a majority government we'd definitely have strong laws against both marijuana and same sex marriage.
God i hate having a Conservative as a PM.
