A bit of perspective:
It may be worth noting that a rapid change in the U.S. occurred over a little more than four decades concerning interracial marriage:
In 1948, about 90% of American Adults opposed interracial marriage when the Supreme Court of California legalized it, and California became the first state that allowed loving, committed interracial couples to marry.
In 1967, about 72% were opposed to interracial marriage. This was the year when the U.S. Supreme Court was legalized interracial marriage everywhere in the U.S.
In 1991, those adults opposed to interracial marriage became a minority for the first time.
The change averaged slightly less than 1 percentage point per year.
I know, as I was actually alive for most of that, but especially in California I thought "we" had gotten beyond that. From what I understand, the ads were just absurd and almost to the point of being illegal. Maybe, that's what is being discussed in this?
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."

Yep. I posted an interesting article about the tatics they were using. Very scary.
These points are just to give perspective about human rights and the popular vote/opinion.

I meant the petition. I assume that there are reasons brought up in it? I admit I haven't read it as I can't vote, but usually in these there are. Lets just hope its successful as it's so wrong.

when someone says "lesbian and gay people", isn't that redundant? yeah, lesbians are women. so gay is strictly for men? if i saw a homosexual woman, i couldn't say "see that woman? she's gay."?
Sending the petition to my family in California. Still can't believe disgusting hatred like this passed.
Totally ironic that on a day that our nation elected its first black president, a day that should symbolize how far our country has come in terms of civil rights, that we could take such a large step back and take away the rights of other citizens.

Amen to that. Sent to my cousin in SoCal. Can't believe this crap.
ARNOLD is Hitlers eligitemate son .....what a creep marriage should be allowed to whom ever wan't to unite with whom ever they desire ....
I don't like Schwarzenegger at all, but to his credit, he did NOT support proposition 8.
The No on Prop 8 camp even put together a commericial with quotes from Arnold, Barack Obama, and Senator Diane Feinstein all urging voters to vote against prop 8.
And it still fucking passed. :(

and yes...seperation of church and state. a founding principle of this country. eh well...out the window eh? yet people will fight tooth and nail over keeping 'under god' in th national anthem b/c it was *always* there...meanwhile that phrasing got added in the 1950s....but the ideals of seperation of church and state, TRULY present from day one in our coutnry, oh to hell with that b/c it does not align with my personally held religious beliefs. please. freedome of religion is for ALL. keep YOUR religion out of OUR governement. it has no business there.
marriage is a LEGAL institution first and foremost. and from a purely legal standpoint, to discriminate against a couple SOLEY for their sexual orientation, two consenting adults....is 100% discriminatory, and totally illegal. at least one would think.......

Another ironic thing is that majority of the black Californian voters are in favor of this ban to pass.
Edit: In case you don't make it to chiqui's post below me, here's an online petition that's been started if you're a CA resident and of legal age to vote, you can sign if you're opposed to prop 8. Thank you chiqui.
be mad at the mormons in Utah, since they spent $80 million to ensure this passed.
seriously wtf do the mormons in utah give a flying fuck what homosexuals do in california? sheesh. it is beyond ridiculous.
and......
80....million...dollars?!
to try and stop gay marriage.
yep...hatred and wishes for inequality are alive and well. think of all the POSITVE things 80 million could do in this country...and to waste it so homosexuals can't get hitched.

evidently the mormon churches view was that as California goes, the rest of the country will eventially go. Been a lot of press in CA on this. Already 7 challenges to this amendment in front of the CA state supreme court, with many more expected, and this could make it's way in front of the U S surpreme court late next year. Obama may have appointed two new associate justices to the U S surpreme court by then.
