you cant see the point yet you label yourself smart?!??! ;)

see... the average film go-er wont sit and watch a movie with subtitles that was made in Franceland... they just wont.. so here we have a movie that has a great story, characters, etc... and so Hollywood will remake it to put the bums on seats.. make $$$$ and generally give themselves a pat on the back... they've been doing it for years and its not a new concept. so its quite an easy concept to grasp really. dont you think? :)
Hey bitch, I'm in a naive artistic integrity mood today ok? ;) Besides, it's already pretty damn successful as far as german films go and, given the Oscar, even vaguely intelligent people in english speaking countries will see that and go "this is a critically acclaimed film and it even won an oscar. I love foreign films, they make me feel intelligent. let's go watch it" :D When the remake comes out, and most likely bombs, people will be like "let's not watch that film with Nicholas Cage, it's supposed to be shite".

You get me? :) Besides, since when do I label myself smart?

Just watched this again last night. Bloody brilliant film.

And Robocop - another classic. I watch it regularly enough. It's bloody hilarious. Paul Vehoeven is a genius!

i like your use of the word bloody.

check out The Salton Sea...i think Val Kilmer's best movie.

    Robocop kicks bloody arse!

He won an Oscar for Leaving Las vegas. Great movie.
Raising Arizona was another good movie he made.
Don't forget his break-out work in "Valley Girl." ;)

  • buffalo 66... probably not really underrated, rather a cult classic. but a great film... it's one of my favorites.

watched it for the fifth time a few days ago. Gets better with each viewing. Everyone spends too much time talking about what a bastard Gallo is that they fail to realise he is a very good director and a better actor.

i'm glad to hear there are other fans.... have you seen brown bunny? it's also one of those underappreciated films... i also like this film but not as much as b66

vincent gallo is also a great music artist.... i love his music. he practically did the entire soundtrack to buffalo 66.... except for a few, like the theme song from Yes "heart of the morning sunrise." i think it's called... can't remember. it's a great song.

I havent seen The Brown Bunny yet but I hear it isn't as good as Buffalo. I have the soundtracks to both though. Brilliant music. Gallo's album "When" is beautiful as well.

Based on the Nicholas Cage hate that I have seen popping up in all the movie threads on this board lately I would add a couple of his GREAT movies to the "Underrated" list (dont get me wrong he has done some really terrible movies):

Adaptation (one of my all time favs - Charlie Kaufman is a genius)
    Leaving Las Vegas
    Raising Arizona

and a few more of my favorites:

American Beauty (I know it won an Academy Award.....but in the general movie going public it doesnt get the love it deserves)
    Magnolia
    Punch Drunk Love
    Closer
    The Blair Witch Project
    Vanilla Sky
    Sideways
    Requiem For A Dream
    Lost In Translation
    Being John Malkovich
    Kids
    As Good As It Gets

.....maybe these arent all underrated - sorry I got carried away
