i love Enemy of the State and i frickin love Last Boy Scout for some reason... they are shit movies but i enjoy the escapism of them i think
I completely agree. Enemy really satisfies my conspiracy theorist side and the last boy scout is just FUN! Die hard 4.0 was one of the funnest films I've seen in YEARS too.
The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
Chicago 07? And love
What a different life
Had I not found this love with you
I guess if I picked one I would say Total Recall is the most criminally underrated.
Was he dreaming or was it real?
'Arnold learns that he's been programmed with false memories of his earthbound existence and is actually a secret agent entangled in a proposed rebellion on draconian Mars'
Ehhh... what do you think?

this one used to be one of my favourites when i was a small kid! even wanted to become a cop because of it! saw it some time ago on the tv. sort of enjoyed it - so many memories from the good old days!!
i have to admit that Showgirls is one of the few films i can watch on mute.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
People seem to be scared of movies with subtitles.
I hate that. City of God is a criminally overlooked film just because the majority of people don't want to have to read while watching a film.
A few days ago I watched Das Leben Der Anderen (The Lives of Others), a film which one the OSCAR for best Foreign Movie in 2006 or 07. It even has hollywood approval for chrissakes so why then is it being remade with Nicholas Fucking Cage as the lead role?! It's a travesty. They are going to destroy what is a totally amazing, thought provoking film by sticking Mr One-Expression in there.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

 BLASPHEMY! The lives of others was fantastic. I love quite a few films with subtitles. Amelie is gorgeous crouching tiger hidden dragon, maria full of grace was good, oooohh... whats that one about the Berlin wall coming down and they try to hide it from the mother cos they think the shock might kill her? That was fantastic and I can never remember the bloody name.

Especially when really you don't even need to read it to know what's going on. I notice when I'm watching subtitled films I forget to read and I still know what's going on. Well, maybe that's because of the ganja

Yeah I notice that too. It's partly to do with the fact that english language films are so concerned with dialogue and being literal that you need to follow every word. Foreign cinema seems much more concerned with the visual artform. If you see a film by Werner Herzog, sometimes you don't even pay attention to the story until the second or third time you see it. Visually they are works of art.

thumbs up amigo!!
i've seen lots of subtitled movies recently
Oldboy, The Black Book (which was brilliant), Letters From Iwo Jima, Trainspotting , etc etc
i have no problem with subtitles at all..

Some of my friends are really into those Japanese movies. We were watching the Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai X movies and one of my friends claimed he didn't need to read the subtitles and knew what the story was about

Simple - change the audio track to spanish or something and turn on english subtitles.
Trainspotting
Whitnail & I
What's eating Gilbert Grape
Lost Boys (tacky but I just love it!)
And, if we're going into foreign films....
LOADS of japanese films - lots of people don't get them.
Delicatessen
The City of Lost Children
I know French cinema quite well and I love it. They know they don't usually have to cater for big, international audiences, so their films are 'art', not just block busters....
To the person who mentioned Herzog... he's a master!

Lost Boys has been referred to as 'popcorn horror', etc. Personally, I think it's a classic in it's genre! I love it! I know there are much better horror films/comedy horror films around, but this one is going very cultish too.

What are you on about?! that IS what I do with foreign films I was complaining about people who seem unable to do that.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
I was specifically referring to anything with Nicolas Cage in it.
Oh I see. yes, that would be preferable. It would still be pointless though when I could just watch the original film. I don't understand the concept of remaking a film that is only 2 years old AND was given an award by the academy. The guy that played the character Cage is going to play died soon after it's release too. The expression "turning in his grave" springs to mind.

you cant see the point yet you label yourself smart?!??!
see... the average film go-er wont sit and watch a movie with subtitles that was made in Franceland... they just wont.. so here we have a movie that has a great story, characters, etc... and so Hollywood will remake it to put the bums on seats.. make $$$$ and generally give themselves a pat on the back... they've been doing it for years and its not a new concept. so its quite an easy concept to grasp really. dont you think?

And Robocop - another classic. I watch it regularly enough. It's bloody hilarious. Paul Vehoeven is a genius!

Me neither. Everything is subtitled here. Except of course Dutch movies, although a lot of them are subtitles as well, which is odd.

I understand what you mean 'bout TS though.
He won an Oscar for Leaving Las vegas. Great movie.
Raising Arizona was another good movie he made.
