Just had one of the scariest days of my life

So we have all had a cold for a few weeks. My Jane, she's 5, got it pretty bad over the weekend. She went to school yesterday but woke up this morning with a horrible cough, you know that bad bark cough, and her nose was slightly bleeding. So I told her she needed to stay home. She tried to get dressed and go to school but I kept her home.
Her and her sister, Clara(she's 3) wanted to stand out on the front porch and watch the rain, so I let them. Around 10 this morning she came in to talk to me and I noticed what looked like an abrasion on her thigh. I asked her if she had fallen or something and she said no. So I touched it and it wasn't raised like a scratch. Then I notice all down the same leg she had red dots, not really a rash, just red dots.
I thought maybe some weird heat rash so I sent her to shower. After her shower while I was drying her off I notice she has really bad bruises on her back, her hips and her elbows. The red dots have spread to her other leg and the spot that looked like an abrasion was worse. She also had a bruise on her cheek now.
So at this point I call my husband and say something is wrong with Jane you have to come home.
I also call my oldest daughter at work and ask if she could come home if I needed her because her dad is on the way there to pick her up so she can be here when the kids get home from school, we were taking Jane to the er.
My first thought was leukemia. That was the Drs first thought at the hospital too. The took lots of blood, said it was some blood disorder.
The first tests came back that her platelets are low, really low. Normal is 100,000 or higher, hers is 1000. She couldn't clot at all. Her nose kept bleeding and bleeding.
The Dr said he was/is 99% sure it isn't leukemia because her white and red blood cells are both normal.
So she is at the hospital tonight getting an iv treatment. Hopefully her platelets will come up and she won't need them to give her any. Her dad is staying there with her, I am at home with the other kids. We have a baby that is tube fed and has to take a few anti seizure meds and my oldest daughter can't do all of that so I am here to take care of her.
They will check Jane's blood tomorrow morning to see if her platelets are coming up and if they are and if they are 30,000 or higher she can come home, if not we will have to figure out what to do next!
I have never been so scared as I was on the 45 minute drive to the er. At one point in the car she started throwing up blood and we thought about just pulling over and calling an ambulance, but she stopped so we continued on. She gets car sick and we think the blood was just stuff she had swallowed from her nose bleeding.
She is asleep and getting her iv now. I am still a mess! I need to sleep sometime tho.
I hope that the Dr is right and it isn't leukemia. :(
ETA this is what they think she has Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura

There is nothing worse than having a sick child, and not knowing what it is.
As I was reading through, the rash made me think Menengicoccyl (sp?) and I started to really freak out, coz that thing can kill within hours - im glad its not.
If the Drs almost 100% sure its not Leukemia then take that onboard and try and just do some relaxation excercises or deep breathing, and channel your healthy thoughts to your daughter.
Thinking of you, and look forward to hearing how shes doing ((((((((hugs)))))))

I hope your daughter recovers and that it isn't leukemia. It's sad to hear these stories as they only seem happen to the best of people.
Good luck

I am waiting to hear how the platelet count goes this morning. My husband said she seems to be in good spirits this morning, so that is great!
Ken had to get off the phone because he needed to have the nurse come in and change the dressing on her nose because it was bleeding pretty badly. Not sure now if she will be home today or not.

I hope everything turns out well.
She won't be coming home tonight and tomorrow isn't looking good either.
I just feel so helpless, that I can't be there with her.
My best to you and your little one. That's got to be scary stuff for you.
