I didn't read the whole thread, E. but I've been to Seattle. Speaking as a New Yorker, and absolutely no disrespect meant to the West Coast peoples (hi SOS) but I didn't love it. I like it, it was nice to visit, and very clean! but I was kind of freaking out after 5 days, I was so homesick.

Also it seemed to me like you needed a car? I'm not sure though.

But I understand that need to relocate-been there, and done that. I wish you the best of luck! And check out the Experience Music Project, that's really cool!

I hear ya Allie. I've left NY plenty of times tho and usually might get homesick after 3 yrs. I'm sure I'll be back for holidays or for the birth of my sis 2nd child in 7 months. Spent like 25 yrs in this bitch..I love getting the fuck outta here, lol...and I love NY, proud of it and everything...it just does me no good for my well being

You can diss Seattle all you want. I do all the time ;)

It's like Portland with 10 times the traffic, harder to navigate, and cooler weather :)

in that case, well that's not so cool!
    but wow
for me it's the total opposite, the only thing that does well for my well-being is being home. I lived in Cali over 10 yrs ago. I loooooved it but I missed home and I missed the seasons! there were only two season in San Fran: the rainy winter and the cold summer! LOL :)

My husband grew up outside of Portland. It took him a long time to stop referring to Washington as "The evil state to the north." :p

Yeah! Stay around and get introduced to Seattle in the height of summer. The best season here, by far.

Another Pearl Jam fan was here for about five months. She was able to find pet sitting gigs for most of her stay.

She got a little bit of money and a place to stay.

Me Im a lil crazy and a bit older so the things I do should NOT be tried at ..on the road.

Please if anybody can hook Mandi up with a place to stay until I get there end of August it wil be very appreciated.

I dont want her sleeping in the streets and roughing it. You will not regret her company and prolly wont wanna let go of her when it comes time to leave.

Sorry lukin.. had ure number on me but pretty much had to leave as soon as i got to seattle :( Had to make it to San Diego by the 31st... sucks!! Ull have to come to savannah so i can smoke you up :D

Oh and Eli.. haha... oh man...we have SO much to talk about..

Well heres how my trip went in a nutshell.

I felt almost foreign when i arrived in Seattle. No sweet tea, WTF! But the next day i really fell in love with that place. Seemed like Seattle was a very hip young place.. lovely weather too.. The whole homeless and drugged out people situation was a bit scary though :( Seemed like a lot of street walkers were out when i was there Sat night .. its a whole different world over there, i tell ya

But yes.. Seattle was lovely. My favorite city i visited by far. I could see myself maybe spending a bit of time there.. think i might get super home sick as well but I d like to do my continuing education there, FOR SURE.

had tons of fun... got to see sooooooooooooooooooooooo much in such a short time. It was unbelievable.

Oh and stick... dont u dare dis the white pants... they are HEAVENLY... They are what low cut shirts on girls are to men, to women ;) But ill admit.. very few people can pull them off but those who can, OH MY

Hope you guys have all been well, i will be back in Seattle sometime in the very near future for sure!! Will have more time to so would love to hook up with Frankie and everyone :)

Stickboy, I haven't read the whole thread but wanted to wish you luck.

I think it's cool that you're moving out to the city your favorite band is from, with people you met through the band. I have two stories of the same thing. :-)

In 2004 I felt like I was done living in Charlottesville VA (in retrospect, I totally wasn't, but it worked out anyway). Some of my closest friends were people in Richmond who I had met through bands...I guess most directly or most frequently through Agents of Good Roots, but originally most of us were Dave Matthews Band people. If you're playing along, those are nancies (DMB) and vibers (AGR). I was debating whether to move back to NY where I grew up, but the Richmond people hosted me on a summer evening and we walked to the Italian deli and got caponata and avocado soup and gazpacho and ate it in the courtyard outside my friend's apartment. She talked about how easy it was getting a second degree in engineering at the university here. So I moved here, to the city my favorite band AGR is from (though they had been broken up for years), and lived with my AGR friends.

The first year I lived here, two of my friends who had been dating broke up. By this time our new favorite band was Jump, Little Children out of Charleston, SC. We were all in love with Charleston, and we had some J,LC friends (opiates) around the southeast. My roommate started dating an opiate from NC and in 2005 they moved to Charleston together.

Cut to present. Everyone is very happy. Everyone is friends with the old-favorite bands in whatever city they live in. Everyone stays in touch and visits each other, and does all the fun things in the city they live in that make the other people jealous because they only get to do them once a year.

I hope you have a great time in Seattle. I recommend driving out through Olympic National Park to La Push and renting a cabin on the Quillayute reservation and waking up at sunrise. It's weird if you're from the east coast, because you can actually see the ocean in the morning light without the sun shining right along the surface.
