Dude, forget Seattle, hit up Vancouver and get that sweet Canadian dollar!
I mean you're not gonna miss much in Seattle, no Sonics, Mariners stink, no Pearl Jam shows neither.

I used to live on 22nd and 47th. Fun times. It's a good neighborhood, despite a lot of the shit that goes down there. Lots of bus service and cheap eats.Walking can be a real trip

*dawn* wrote:check out downtown, greenlake, university district, fremont, wallingford, and queen anne neighborhoods. they're all fairly central. as someone already said - mere blocks can be worth hundreds of dollars of rent per month.
West Seattle really is on it's own, only a couple ways in and out of that part of the city. I've lived here all my life and only been over there a few times (took yahamita over when she was here!)
One thing you should know is that Bastyr University is on the east side which is anywhere from 30-60 minutes from Seattle depending on traffic.
As far as getting booked into clubs, it's been MANY years since my husband was in a very drunk band and would find places to play. Jimmy Z's in Everett will let just about anyone play. El Corazon used to be the Off Ramp and they'd let them in occasionally. I really don't know what their booking policies are now. A good resource would be The Stranger's music calendar so you can look at different venue's policies: http://thestranger.com/seattle/Search?search=music
Thanks so much Dawn:)0 -
West Seattle....Alki Beach....Easy Street Records....Admiral Pub....Nice hoods w/ lower rent that Seattle proper....10 minutes from downtown....water taxi to downtown....what else is there to want?

We went from 850 sqaure feet in Belltown (downtown, Elliott & Wall)....to 1250 square feet in West Seattle.....and pay $400 LESS per month!

ok. so the address for the school is like 3 blocks from where i live. it seems to be in a building with a bunch of other businesses....like a travel agency, a tea room, an architect, a torah learning center...not sure what else. so it doesnt seem like a big place.
what about this place?

people crack me up what think west seattle is "out of the way". there are several direct busses to go downtown. we have the water taxi- 12 minutes from alki to downtown. the rents are reasonable. we have the beach, the junction, a lot of restaurants and bars. but that's fine...more room for us.
also in west seattle:

a cool little restaurant/bar/club with an open mic night on wednesdays.0 -

Ah, but you don't drive through West Seattle...you drive TO West Seattle. If you're not headed there for a specific reason, you drive by it not through it.
Not saying it's not a nice place (it's very nice!) but it feels out of the way. That's all

Yes, I agree. It's just that West Seattle is very suburban feeling, especially after living in downtown for so long.*dawn* wrote:Ah, but you don't drive through West Seattle...you drive TO West Seattle. If you're not headed there for a specific reason, you drive by it not through it.

that's right!!! you and Swede were there. Purp and I hit the Sox game and suffering from jet lag and heat, I dozed off during the 7th inning!!!
Damn, my family is all on this coast and my dogs are a bit old to be transferring them across country....but this talk fans my independent feathers for me to wander that way. Perhaps a few years from now, when my girls are (sadly) gone, I'll make the trek to live on the West Coast for a bit....bring up a couple more pups out there.
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

believe me, I'm considering it. I plan on selling my house in 5 years anyway (assuming the market is better than it is now!); I've eyeballed the job market out there as well (decent for my career now and I'll have more experience in my discipline by then)...so yeah...I'm considering it!
