hands down for the most overrated and unfunny sitcoms ever are Frasier, Seinfeld & Friends.
    Sorry...I just don't get.

As a person of color, you might think that the show is too "white" for me???
think again, I like a lot of different type of shows that have majority white cast members. i.e. examples of GREAT sitcoms = Every Loves Raymond (it's true, everybody loves Ray Romano), Scrubs, Yes, Dear (I think it's natural for a fellow New Englander to find Mike O'Malloy hilarious), My Name is Earl (who doesn't like Jason Lee?).

Funny how one mans sweet meat is another's salmonella filled egg. I love '...Raymond', tickles me pink to be honest whenever I see it.
Friends was ok, til they squeezed the juice right out of the sucker..about series 3 or 4.
And personally I find Little Britain to be complete rubbish...and to a lesser extent The mighty Boosh. I know that if I was 18 it would make me laugh, but now it just leaves me staring blankly....it's an age thing.
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

No Jamie...The Mighty Boosh is complete and utter shit. I don't understand how people can watch it. Mostly I think it's girls who fancy Noel Fielding, who I find to be very irritating, and if I ever met him I would kick him in the balls.

As tired as I am right now...that still got a chuckle out of me...and I have no idea who Noel Fielding is.

Everybody Loves Raymond (this show really stinks. The work cliche doesn't even begin to describe this situational comedy)
South Park (I find some of it pretty funny, but just doesn't live up to the hype)
Simpsons (only last 7-8 years. The first 5-6 seasons were HILARIOUS)

I can see why there are so many Seinfeld haters, but seasons 6-9 were AWESOME.
Friends is probably my all time favorite show. Just plain brilliant IMO. Any doubters should see "The One With Ross's Sandwich" Best friends episode ever.

All of them. Like Chistmas Carols, tv sucks. Read a book!

I could start a "Books that are supposed to be classics but are actually complete shite" thread, but it wouldn't last very long. ;)

That would take a long time to read, then discuss, were all to participate.

I'm sure a lot of people here do read. I read a lot. But sometimes it's just easier to watch tv. It requires so little effort. :D

  • And it would be a much bigger waste of time than idling a few minutes talking about TV. I've more than the one degree in Literature, and if I were to start spouting my literary critical training on an AET thread, I'd just be waving my todger at people. Nah, I prefer the TV threads. ;)
  • South Park is funny when they are new because it pokes fun at current events. Watching reruns now aren't even as funny.

personally, I think it's totally the other way around

There, I said it. Bloody po-faced, Reithian, supercilious "comedy" written on the back of Bleasdale's "The Monocled Mutineer" and attempting in its own haughty, posh school view, to enlighten the "stupid masses" about the folly of war via a BBC historical sitcom. With its smattering of knowledge of first world war poetry, probably some Roger McGough and an evident self delusion of being a masterwork of socio-political import, it patronises at best, and bores rigid at worst. And I speak as an anti-war leftie. It's bollocks.

PS And it's got Tony Robinson in it.

Fins, 'member when me, you and Ms. Haiku were discussing, "Portrait of the Young Man as an Artist", "The Odyssey" and "Ulysees". Well, I think the thread bunked out on month three to discuss "Ulysees". That really sucked because, I only understood the sex parts.

So, tv then. Uh, I hate.... think brain think...

I agree on curb your enthusiasm.
  • I was going to do a book group on that. I was still up for it, all the way.

and to the person who said Fawlty Towers, I disagree and anyone who said Family Guy and Scrubs

Matt Lucas is too angry to be funny. I think that's the problem, there.

I don't see why you would willingly submit yourself to the torture that is "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" (not the other way around).

That book was pure torture, not quite as bad as Scarlet Letter though!

  • It is, in a TV thread. :p

Most of the shows you guys posted here are funny. Except for Everybody loves Raymond and Frasier. King of Queens has its moments. Notice some shows posted don't have laugh tracks. So you probably need to know your cue.

"That 70s Show" and "Married With Children." "Roseanne." The Nick Cannon show on MTV. I think it's called "Wild'n Out" or something. It was almost as bad as that Wilmer Valalaldlldlalsldlldlalderrama show with the goofs who told "Yo mama" jokes.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The Office" make me laugh. So does "Entourage."
